A cofounder of the Trust for Sustainable Forestry, he runs a hobby business in his spare time, making wood utensils and jewelry from the famed Arbutus tree.

He currently is a writer, hobby artisan, gardener, and regular Ultimate Frisbee player on a remote island in British Columbia, Canada. He has two daughters and five granddaughters.

A fantastic guide to natural and alternative sleep By PR Labs This is a great book on natural and alternative ways to fall asleep which is a huge issue for millions of Americans. Sleep is such a fundamental requirement for healthy living and too many of us are sleep deprived due to stress, anxiety, drugs and medications, and lack of exercise. Ron gives us the tools to train our bodies to naturally seek out and adopt better sleeping habits. Great information for all of us. A great read with practical, simple steps for better living.

By Deepa Narayan You never have to search the internet again in the middle of the night trying to find a way to fall asleep! Ron Bazar, an insomniac graduate of Harvard university has done the work for you. With humor he traverses the universe of sleep solutions offered up for sale and those not for sale. This book is easy to read, full of cartoons to make you smile and cross-references to experts and resources available. An invaluable resource for a good night's sleep.

Great Resource on Everything About Sleep By John Blaxall The great thing about Bazar’s “Sleep Secrets” is that he doesn’t try to convince you to follow some “proven” method of his own concoction. Instead he acknowledges right at the outset that we are all different, and have different needs and responses. And then he lays out an astonishingly rich menu of advice and techniques that all sorts of medical and non-medical experts have proposed to help people deal with sleep problems. His message is: “Pick what makes sense to you, give it a trial, see if it works.”Because it’s an e-book, he doesn’t have to describe the options in much detail, he simply provides a link so the e-reader can immediately jump to the source material – and then jump back again to the text. This does not make for great literature, but it is amazingly convenient and informative. While Bazar doesn’t make judgments about what may or may not work for you, he occasionally mentions that something was particularly effective for him. And he does introduce cautions from time to time, for example about the electromagnetic fields that are associated with much of our modern gadgetry.The chapters are sensibly divided among the following topics: Why Sleep?, Routines, Light Controls, Sleep Environment, Electromagnetic Fields, Food & Supplements, Body-Mind Techniques, Sleep at Different Ages, Snoring & Sleep Apnea, and New Technologies. You don’t have to be an insomniac to find lots of useful material here; for example, on wool vs silk vs down quilts (including links to where to buy them) in the chapter on Sleep Environment.All in all, a great resource for sleepers and non-sleepers alike!
