Camino Maps in English, French and Spanish By Teras First off, the product listing title is misleading stating it's the Spanish edition, when in fact it is a multilingual edition in English, Spanish and French. This book is the 2012 condensed version of "A Pilgrim's Guide to the Camino de Santiago" by the same author retaining the maps, stage descriptions, and simple listings of accommodations, restaurants & notable sites. The book also includes the leg between Santiago de Compostela to Finisterre (that I believe is covered in detail in "A Pilgrim's Guide to the Camino Finisterre"). At 1/3 the size and weight of the full version but retaining all the essential reference info, this slim book is a nice alternative for carrying along during your walk.

By Australian This map book by John Brierly is masterful, and I have given it a high rating because of it's clarity and also the fact that the descriptions of the route are in three different languages. No doubt a great help to anyone who speaks little French or English. Some accommodation is mentioned and clearly marked on the maps, which is very helpful. There is no added commentary, as there is in his book "A Pilgrim's guide to the Camino", and this makes the book lighter to carry. A factor for those who want to keep their weight to a minimum. I myself like his reflections given in the heavier "A Pilgrim's guide", and would choose to have that with me and leave the Maps book behind. You certainly don't need this book of Maps if you already have "A Pilgrim's Guide to the Camino". But on its own, it is a great guide to the Camino, with clear markings and route descriptions.

By Rambling Rose Field tested on the Camino itself for three weeks, I found this seemed to be the go-to for many other pilgrims. I won't finish the Camino(next year) without this book(I carried the map only version in my backpack for weight control but did sometimes miss the expanded version), but I must add that the Brierley maps were sometimes confusing through the big cities whenI was tired and not thinking. The reason for this is that many of us can slide into a wall-school map mentality and expect west to be to the left, north on top, east to right etc. Although the book's guide-maps through the cities are accurate, they aren't laid out with a school-map orientation. Grab a cafe con leche somewhere, rest, and reorient yourself through Pamplona and Burgos (especially the latter) lest you get tangled by directional disfunction of the brain. Another comment: If you follow Brierley's suggested travel schedule(so many kilometers/day) you will find yourself caught in "clumps" of people doing likewise, since he is so popularly consulted. Break the routine, jump off the trail sooner or later, and you might find more solitude(not that it was crowded in the fall). To Brierley, you might consider a Korean translation; lot of our brothers and sisters from that area trekking about.
