Who was Jesus of Nazareth? This question has launched a perpetual stream of theories and books. "The Hidden Realm of God: the Historical Jesus and His Healing Philosophy" provides a fresh perspective on the question by building upon a century of scholarly work and systematically exploring sayings chosen by a group of modern scholars as most probably originating with the historical Jesus. "The Hidden Realm of God" is the first book to systematically link the sayings of the historical Jesus to 1st century Western philosophy, Eastern philosophy, and 21st century health science. The author synthesizes scientific, historical, and biblical research to make a case that the historical Jesus was a philosopher-healer. "The Hidden Realm of God" is more than an academic quest for the historical Jesus; it shows how his philosophy is still relevant for human life and health. "The Hidden Realm of God" shows how sayings of Jesus are related to findings in health research, modern hypnosis techniques, and ancient meditation methods of both Western and Eastern traditions. The author describes his own original experimental research into the effects of contemplating Jesus’ words, indicating that listening to Jesus’ sayings can induce meditative states and reduce anxiety. The book also provides the readers with helpful suggestions for applying Jesus’ philosophy for health and well-being. Topics discussed in the book include: the academic quest for the historical Jesus - the life of Jesus - God, Faith & Healing - Optimism & Health - Love & Healing - Forgiveness - Jesus on the Laws of Moses - Meditation, Prayer & Healing - Self-knowledge & Transformation - Human potential - Jesus as a philosopher - Jesus as a humorist

Jesus’s words often confused me; the sayings sometimes seemed to conflict. The Hidden Realm of God, by James Gaither, set the historical stage for me – presenting the socio-political culture of Jesus’s time and the philosophers and religions that may have influenced his thinking. Along with commonly held interpretations of Jesus’s sayings, Gaither offers other interpretations that relate to what is known about Jesus. Ancient words, written boldly in red in my King James version, are they the actual words of Jesus? Or are they a spin on what he may have said according to the authors of the gospels? The Hidden Realm of God offers Gaither’s findings based on well-documented sources I feel I can trust. His research provides a fuller picture of Jesus, the man, offering historical context that allows me to draw my own conclusions. It’s a book that provokes thought. I took my time in reading it and, interestingly, I found it stress-relieving and restorative to ponder these ideas at the end of a turbulent New York City day. Reading about the Jesus Seminars and what scholars believe to be Jesus’s “authentic” sayings and contemplating these sayings as Gaither suggests, induced in me a meditative state. No longer tied to the events of my day, I found myself absorbed in larger thoughts – thoughts that led me to seek beyond what can be physically observed. As the book points out, Jesus healed by looking beyond the disturbance, by tuning himself to the hidden realm. I’ve enjoyed picking up the book at night and reflecting on that thought and others. For those with discerning minds, I highly recommend this book as an insightful read.

Recommended for anyone in the healing arts By John Connor This book is easy to read in style, and yet also contains the research citations that are helpful in book like this. Gaither uses frequent references to modern biblical scholarship, demonstrating an up-to-date understanding of Jesus' time, language, and cultural context. I also like that he hones in on Jesus' mind/body/spirit approach to Healing, instead of attempting to illuminate Jesus' approach to everything. Highly recommended for pastors, spiritually-oriented healthcare workers, those who consider Jesus to the one who shows the Way.

By Donald McGrath Jim has a wonderful presentation of Jesus as Philosopher and Teacher. And teaching us we live everyday in the Realm ( Kingdom of Our Father.). He has a wonderful suggestion I have never seen given by spiritual writers and that is to actually record the passages of the New Testament and the words of Jesus so we hear aloud in our voice the wonderful power and inspiration of his words.
