Goldberg tells it like it is, with humor, insight, and the wisdom of having survived the marathon journey of a high-tech twin pregnancy―bravo!” —Dr.Barbara Luke, coauthor, When You’re Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads “If you’re very, very pregnant―if you’re cooking up two brand new humans, not just one―K.K. Goldberg has written the book for you. Filled with humor and reassurance, The Doctor and the Stork will walk beside you through each week of weirdness, discomfort and generalized anxiety. If you’re tired of reading and rereading the one page about twins in all the other pregnancy books, this is a required text―the What to Expect When You’re Expecting for the rest of us.” —Caitlin Flanagan, author of To Hell with All That: Loving and Loathing Our Inner Housewives “If this had been available to me as I started the IVF journey to twin parenting, it would have been so much more bearable: I would have been easier on myself, felt less alone, and been reassured that while the experience is extreme others have passed through it unscathed, or at least with only a few stretch marks.” —Becky Worley, technology contributor for ABC News/ Good Morning America “Her stories have heart, humor, and a keen eye for human foibles.” —Sy Safransky, Editor and Publisher of the Sun

Is this not really as agonizingly hard as it seems, am I just histrionic and weak? When you are asking these questions, finding someone who shares your deepest struggle, someone who gets it, feels like finding water in the desert. Mothers pregnant with twins, this book is your canteen. Mothers pregnant with IVF twins, this is your Niagra Falls, for each of those challenges alone will test you to your core. K.K. Goldberg wrote the book she wished for when she was that mother. It’s a smart, honest look at what it’s like to hope, beg, pray—and pay a criminal amount of money—for something you end up doubting you’ll be able to handle, maybe even survive. Every pregnancy is different, every mother is different, but there are enough common themes here to have any mother of a medical and/or high-risk pregnancy nodding her head in commiseration, and united in the ultimate truth: I will cry a million tears. I will wring my hands. I will need help. But I will get my beloved baby(ies) here.My one criticism of this book is hardly a criticism at all, or one I should be so lucky to ever receive. The writing is very good, but at times it is so good it gets in the way of the story. True, it is a memoir and not a novel, but sometimes I was so busy admiring a sentence I was pulled away from reading on. It didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book, I just felt like the author was one nuance away from nailing both at the same time.On a personal note, I bristle at (in)fertility books that are either written or marketed as humorous. I get it, you need some humor to get through this, of course. But to put a funny spin on the whole traumatic journey, just no. I don’t, in fact, think this book was written this way, and I liked the humor in it, especially the dry—and this is important—intimate humor between the author and her physicist husband. But someone got it wrong with the title and cover, both of which strike me as silly or whimsical, and neither of which (in)fertility nor this book are. (At least the title didn’t contain the trite “Inconceivable,” another peeve of mine.)All in all, a great book, and one you don’t want to miss if you are a pregnant mom needing someone to get it, or someone supporting one. laurieprim.com

Humor, Sass and Savvy By Barbara Stark-Nemon - author Even in Darkness- a novel It takes a wonderful writer and a solid sense of self to tell the story of infertility, in-vitro fertilization, and twin pregnancy with humor, sass, and savvy, and K.K. Goldberg accomplishes all this in her memoir, The Doctor and the Stork. The emotional journey, the medical journey and the interface with strangers, friends and loved ones are all written with compelling clarity, regularly punctuated with the laugh-out-loud intrusion of Goldberg’s “inner voice”. More than a medical memoir, The Dr. and the Stork is an engaging and informative read in the new world of babymaking.

She beautifully describes that combination of joy and (mostly) terror that comes with twin pregnancy. I wish I had this book when pregnant with twins 3 years ago so I could hear from someone who really 'got' how hard and comical it all was. Even reading it now after the fact, it really brought me back to those days and felt so validating. Like childbirth, it all is a blur after the fact, so it's wonderful to be able to revisit that time week by week, especially when NOT pregnant anymore! I loved it.
