The story and characters jumped all over the place ... one minute the hero was pronounced confident and bold and the next he didn't know what to do. And she was supposed to be a thinker and smart and yet she was quick to make assumptions and flighty with her emotions. Would have loved to see the story developed a little more and their conversations with a little more depth
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. This is a charming fun read By hmg I really enjoyed this retelling of beauty and the beast. It was unique while maintaining the underlying details of the original story. I love the cover. Eye catching and intriguing. The setting was solitary and perfect. I even learned something new about roses. The main characters were likeable. I wondered if Sebastian fell in love too easily. Or had he looked for so long for his perfect woman that he knew her right away? The dance lessons were intimate. Sebastian's childhood stories were sweet. I loved the butler, Alistaire. He's all I imagine a good butler to be, knowing what goes on behind the scenes and with a sixth sense of all characters involved. I cringed at the trite beast phrases. Even though it's beauty and the beast, they were too much for me. I really didn't like Blaire. She was a little over the top and seemed to have too much reign at Rosewood that she shouldn't have had. It didn't seem terribly realistic to me. That was my biggest complaint about the book. Over all, this clean book was a fun, light read. If you are looking for action packed or steamy romance, this sweet book isn't for you. It's steady paced with fun characters, a couple kisses, and charm. I would read it again. Nothing offensive. I've really enjoyed the couple of books I've read by this author.

I thought this book was going for a paranormal-under-a-spell like story but instead, it's a contemporary believable Beauty-and-the-Beast story. Belle Montrose works for the company Aspen Grove Realty but when she thinks she broke a deal with the elusive Sebastian Blake - owner of Rosewood Estates, he abruptly backs out of her deal. Coming down with the flu and nasty blizzard conditions, she brushes off her fiance Peter's offer to go with her - she goes to his estate alone to confront Sebastian and calling him a beast when he still refuses after he'd insulted her. After she leaves, she ends up in a car-totalling accident which no one would have known where she was until Sebastian who had second thoughts with his financial situation, saved her. After her long recovery, she wakes up -- realizes Sebastian had took care of her while she was sick and her fiance Peter didn't even come to check on her, regardless of the blizzard. She realizes Sebastian isn't what she thought he was but agrees with his conditions that she stay for two weeks to consider keeping Rosewood the way it is and he'd promise to sell to her if she'd consider saving it. There is a villain in the story trying to put a wrench into Sebastian and Belle's budding-angst romance. Read the book to find out what happens.
