Prominent ethicists from around the globe seek to deepen contemporary understandings of environmental sustainability, human flourishing, and the pursuit of justice.Just Sustainability is a broad-ranging study of the social, economic, and conceptual changes needed on a global level for all of life to flourish in the 21st century. As the play on words in the title suggests, these discussions of sustainability continually invoke the norm of justice, which has become a central part of Catholic thought and magisterial teaching in the contexts of economic development, technological innovation and environmental degradation. In the editors' view, any viable path to sustainability must also be just--whether as norm guiding policy decisions or in the development of a comprehensive ethics of ecology, concepts of justice and sustainability must mutually inform one another in the 21st century. As with previous volumes in the CTEWC series, this book offers the perspectives of scholars from a number of social, ethnic, geographic, and economic backgrounds, making it a truly global contribution to the increasingly pressing conversation around how to care for and live in harmony with our increasingly degraded planet.

Mobilizing Congregations: How Teams Can Motivate Members and Get Things Done, by John W. Wimberly Jr.

Review When today’s most vital congregations want ministry to happen, they turn to teams. Teams act, reflect, evaluate, and act again—in contrast to traditional structures, which too often bog down under the sheer weight of static job descriptions, casual accountability, and meddling standing bodies. John Wimberly’s candid wisdom and plain-spoken advice make Mobilizing Congregations a great guide for leaders with high expectations for their church or synagogue. (Dan Hotchkiss, author of "Governance and Ministry: Rethinking Board Leadership")Reverend Wimberly provides both the theoretical and practical information for congregations seeking to engage more members and get things done. He explains how to create and maintain teams that succeed with simple guidance. Throughout the book, Wimberly weaves spiritual insights and highlights the religious values at the heart of every congregations’ work. As the senior rabbi of a large congregation, I have often turned to Reverend Wimberly when trying to lead my congregation into the next generation of systems, leaders and programs. This book will be like having him on speed dial for some of my most pressing challenges. (Rabbi Jonathan Roos, senior rabbi, Temple Sinai, Washington D.C.)If you have ever doubted the transforming power of team ministry, read this book. In it Wimberly draws on his 40 years of experience as a pastor as well as the team experience he gained while working on his MBA to offer a clear and convincing argument for why the church today should be making better use of teams. This step-by-step guide to intentional team-building should to be read by any church leaders who want to mobilize members for mission and transformative ministry. (Mindy Douglas, Pastor, Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church, Chapel Hill, NC)

About the Author John W. Wimberly Jr., is a consultant for the Congregational Consulting Group. He previously served as pastor of Western Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. He has used his unique combination of theological and business skills to help found both Miriam’s Kitchen for the Homeless and The Ethiopia Health Network and write The Business of the Church: The Uncomfortable Truth that Faithful Ministry Requires Effective Management, in addition to providing guidance for clergy and congregations.

What does the Bible really say about homosexuality?

Is it a sin to be gay or to be in a same-sex relationship?

Many people struggle with reconciling religion and homosexuality. You might have a gay friend or family member, or be gay yourself, and not know what God would say about your sexuality. You might have been told that being gay is a terrible sin, and some verses from the Bible might even have been used to justify this claim.

Find out which passages are said to refer to being gay and gay relationships

Being raised in Christian households, we were often told that the Bible condemns homosexuality. We struggled with these issues ourselves for a long time, and eventually decided to research the Bible ourselves and find out exactly what it says about homosexuality. All of the passages that are often used against homosexuality in the Bible are discussed in this book.

Find ways to reconcile being gay and Christian

This short book is packed with information about how Biblical scholars and religious leaders have reconciled homosexuality and religion, including: - What Jesus had to say about homosexuality - Same-sex relationships in the Bible - How many churches are changing their stances and teachings about homosexuality

About the authors

Grant Andrews is currently completing his PhD at the University of the Western Cape, with a focus on fatherhood and masculinities. He lectures in the English Department and has written extensively on self-actualization and self-exploration. Malan van der Walt is a student program coordinator at the University of Stellenbosch, working with young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in order to promote HIV prevention and to advocate for equality. He is continuing his postgraduate studies in psychology with a focus on gender and sexuality. He conducts counselling sessions and runs support groups with young gay people.

If you need a fresh perspective on your faith and sexuality, this book is for you.

8 of 10 people found the following review helpful. I recommend this for all Christians By Joseph A. Washburn This is a very well written book. The authors did their research. I've been researching the same subject for several years. They reveal all the same things I've discovered in my research. The only problem is they mainly focus on gay men. Very little mention of lesbianism. This is probably due to the fact that this book is a shorter version of another book they wrote on how parents can accept their gay sons. I assume the authors were writing from their own experience, thus the focus on gay men. Of course the Bible only mentions lesbianism one time itself. What the authors have to say about gay men will apply equally to lesbians. I recommend this for all Christians. Hopefully more Christians will come to accept homosexuals in the love that Jesus intended as a result of reading this book.

12 of 16 people found the following review helpful. One-sided research with a one-sided conclusion By Nick Peters What do I think of Van Der Walt and Andrews's book published by Inspired Living? Let's plunge into the Deeper Waters and find out.To be fair, this is a very short book. So short you could read it in an hour in fact. While it's not meant to be exhaustive and I understand that, the work is highly insufficient for its claims and does not show much research on the part of its writers. You get the impression they came to the text wanting to find what they wanted to find and chose sources to make sure that that happened. With a look at the title, even a strong conservative can say no, it doesn't. What we can say is that it condemns homosexual activity. Once again, for the sake of argument, the Bible could be wrong in its condemnation of homosexual activity, but let us not be wrong in the fact that it does condemn it. At the start, you find the emotional heartstrings pulled with a quote like "We believe that a loving God would want a loving interpretation of His words which does not exclude anyone from any His message simply based on one aspect of their identity."That sounds good, but how far does it go? The use of simply there implies that sexual activity is a small thing. Should we say the same if someone considered adultery part of their identity? Would we say "A loving God would not want to exclude me based on one aspect of my identity. What if we found the same for sexual attraction to children, or relatives, or animals? Could I say it's part of my sexual identity to be attracted to multiple women so I should be allowed? Why would a loving God want to exclude this? Also, the writers say that they are not experts on religion, but have read widely and are presenting the work of experts. If you're not an expert though, then don't present an opinion on it in that way. A non-expert can have a hard time even knowing how to evaluate the material at times and their material is hardly representative. What do they use? They use the documentary "For The Bible Tells Me So." The description of this goes as follows:"Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Seattle Interntional Film Festival, Dan Karslake's provocative, entertaining documentary brilliantly reconciles homosexuality and Biblical scripture, and in the process reveals that Church-sanctioned anti-gay bias is based solely upon a significant (and often malicious) misinterpretation of the Bible. As the film notes, most Christians live their lives today without feeling obliged to kill anyone who works on the Sabbath or eats shrimp.Through the experience of five very normal, very Christian , very American families - including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopalian Bishop Gene Robinson - we discover how insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child. With commentary by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech, For The Bible Tells Me So offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.Next we have God and the Gay Christian written by Matthew Vines which is a leading popular work arguing that homosexuality and Christianity are perfectly compatible. The video is also included."The next work is "What The Bible Really Says About Homosexuality. It's description is"Helminiak, a Roman Catholic priest, has done careful reading in current biblical scholarship about homosexuality. While cautioning against viewing biblical teaching as "the last word on sexual ethics," he stresses the need for accurate understanding of what the biblical "facts" are and concludes that "the Bible supplies no real basis for the condemnation of homosexuality." Using the studies of Yale historian John Boswell (Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe, LJ 7/94), New Testament seminary professor L. William Countryman, and others, Helminiak examines the story of Sodom (where the sin was inhospitality), Jude's decrying sex with angels, and five texts-Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13, Romans 1:27, I Corinthians 6:9, and I Timothy 1:10-all of which, he concludes, "are concerned with something other than homogenital activity itself." Highly recommended for all libraries."We have next "The Bible's Yes to Same-Sex marriage: An Evangelical's Change of Heart, followed by The Bible and Homosexuality article on Wikipedia. Yes. Wikipedia. The obvious place we all go to for excellent research. Following that is the GayChristian 101 web site and Religious Tolerance. Now am I saying exclude these sources because they all argue for homosexuality? No, but let's consider this.Let's suppose you wanted to write and say you were not an expert on the age of the Earth, but you were reading the experts, and the only books and videos and such you cited were young-earth creationists. What if you were going to write a critique of evolution and you included only people who argued against evolution in your source? What if you were going to do a look at the question of theism and the only people you cited were Christian apologists specializing in theism vs. atheism? Not only that, not one person in this list is really a scholar in the field. There are in fact pro-homosexual NT scholars that could have been cited, but these authors do not do so and yet they expect us to think they have interviewed the experts. The authors also want us to keep in mind that the Bible was written thousands of years ago without the understanding that homosexuality was a legitimate widespread sexuality. Unfortunately, they do not demonstrate this. Is there any interaction with the Symposium of Plato where it is said some people's missing halves were of the same sex? Is there any interaction with Hubbard's work on homosexuality in ancient Greece and Rome? Not a peep of it. It had its defenders and detractors back then and even theories as to what causes homosexuality. When looking at Bible passages, completely ignored are passages like the creation narrative in Genesis 1 and 2 and the main thrust of Jesus's teachings in Matthew 19 is ignored. In fact, other passages are gone to, such as Jonathan and David supposedly having a gay relationship. Another one suggested is that Ruth and Naomi had one. (Apparently, incest isn't really a problem.) In fact, in looking at Matthew 19:9-12, we're told that the passage speaking about eunuchs is widely considered to refer to homosexuality. Who widely considers this? We're not told.Looking at the Levitical passages, we're told that most were only applicable to Jewish priests or Levites. We would be quite interested to find out that commands against bestiality and child sacrifice only applied to the Levites but were okay for everyone else. This also does not explain why the text specifically says the nations before were being driven out because they engaged in these practices, which were apparently only wrong for Levites. The writers then say there are many other aspects we don't follow. True enough, because these are not seen as part of the moral law, but that these other nations got excluded from the land for these practices tells us that these are different, as well as the fact that these passages prescribe the death penalty. For the Sodom and Gomorrah narrative, I could actually agree that the sin of Sodom is an inhospitality, but at the same time, their homosexual behavior is condemned and shown as a sign of how far they have fallen. When this is cited in Ezekiel 16, one can see that Ezekiel is citing the holiness code which includes the prohibitions of Leviticus and would include same-sex behavior. For 1 Cor. 6:9-11, we're told the words do not refer to homosexuals, but if they did not, then Paul had much better words to use. In fact, the latter word Arsenokoitai, comes from the Levitical passage on homosexuality and is combination of two words found there. One struggles to find a way that Paul could have been clearer.Romans 1 is of course the key passage and here we're told that unnatural could mean uncustomary, but the text does not permit that interpretation. Paul uses several terms such as creation, creator, male and female, etc. These are referring to the Genesis 1 and 2 narrative. If Paul wants to say idolatry is a horribly wrong twisting of reality on the vertical level to think that God can be reduced to animals and idols, then homosexuality is such an event on the horizontal level to take the natural usages of the male and female body and use them in ways they were not designed to be used. The writers tell us that Paul was not referring to loving gay relationships, but Paul would have known about such and we could just as well ask what Paul would say about loving incestual relationships or loving bestial relationships or loving polygamous relationships. In the end, this is a hideously weak look at an important topic and the sound of one hand clapping by ignoring the best scholarship on both sides in the field. Don't waste your time and while the book has been free on Kindle and could still be now, don't waste your storage space. In Christ,Nick Peters

12 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Breaking down verses By Alayna This book analyzes the five verses most used in defense of homophobia in churches. Several times, the authors actually look at the original wording to show that it's unlikely that the Bible even really mentions homosexuality, let alone condemns it. The authors also show a verse that may be Jesus understanding and accepting gay people. One draw back: the book focuses exclusively (and unnecessarily) on men, only mentioning gay women one time on the last page, despite the fact that all of these arguments stand for that group.

The suggestions and recipes are delicious sounding and simple to make. They are ideal for the busy mom who hasn't the time to spend hours preparing healthy food. Before eating clean I hardly had the energy to pull myself up the stairs to go to bed. I was depressed and lethargic. My brain was in a fog. But now I feel joyous..I have boundless energy to get my tasks done. I feel so happy and healthy. I cannot wait to try these recipes!

Clean eating is perhaps the easiest form of dieting because it doesn't rely on counting macronutrients, which is often required for bodybuilders but not necessary for someone who's looking to improve their lifestyle and live a healthier life. This book contains clear and specific information that will teach you the essentials of clean eating and will help you change your eating habits by adopting an easy-to-follow diet plan.

Brent Norman does a good job explaining why we need to stay away from foods that have hormones or chemicals inside. Often we don't eat clean because it can be a bit of a hassle, but the recipes here are easy to follow and don't take anymore time than making unhealthy meals.

Throughout history, there have many instances of creatures sightings that are out of the ordinary and indescribable. These creatures are commonly known as cryptids – paranormal creatures whose existence has been suggested, but never actually proven by the scientific or any other community. When speaking of a cryptid such as the Loch Ness Monster, many times, it will immediately be dismissed. Many simply dismiss these sightings as myths, hoaxes, and crazy talk, but the insurmountable amount of cryptids has many people wondering if these creatures are more just folklore. Besides, newer species get discovered all the time. Could these so called cryptids be creatures as such? Many cryptozoological animals have been discovered over the years. When Europeans visited Australia, they reported animals that stood like a man, hopped like a frog, had deer heads, and a second head on their stomach. Who would believe that ?! But, turns out, it was the kangaroo! The platypus was also thought to be a fraud! We may live in a world with more technology and you might think that it’s a lot easier to find and discover a species compared to hundreds and thousands of years ago. So, you decide! A fascinating exploration of cryptids from both the past and present By Stella Maris A fascinating exploration of cryptids from both the past and the present day. It is interesting how myth and legend can actually sometimes be shown to be fact not fiction. And how sometimes fact and myth can blend into something mysterious and yet can eventually be explained. There are a great many more cryptids out there there are not covered in this book, many of which are much more well known than those that the authors chose to explore. This book, though entertaining and thought-provoking, was perhaps too brief. I would have enjoyed a wider coverage of this absorbing subject.

By BlueBird This meaty middle-grade non-fiction title takes readers on an adventure in cryptozoology"the study of and searching for legendary animals--called cryptids--to find out if there's any possibility that these mysterious animals people say they've seen really exist." From Bigfoot to the Loch Ness Monster to prehistoric cryptids you may never have heard of, this book tells readers what is true, what is not, and what scientists just can't be sure about. I love that the authors had the courage to turn an objective eye to a fabulously interesting topic that happens to be fraught with doubt and disbelief. The result is a book that helps young readers to realize that all scientific investigation, cryptozoology included, requires a careful balance of skepticism and open-mindedness.10 Cryptids That Might Really Exists thought-provoking, and should prove to be a great stimulus to discussion and conversation, whether you're a believer in cryptids or not.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Outstanding read By Greg S. in MD I've always been a cryptid fan. Just the thought that there may be some large animal out there that science scoffs at waiting to be discovered thrills me. I've been reading about Bigfoot, Nessie and all sorts of cryptids for years. That's what brought me to this book. I was looking for something I hadn't read that was relatively inexpensive (can't be more inexpensive than free) and reviewed pretty well. The author takes a slightly different approach to most cryptid books. Instead of focusing on the big names, he looks into a bunch of relatively unknown creatures. Then he gives a pretty good background on the creature and possible explanations for what the creature might be. Unlike many books, the author even gives references to his research.

It has Jun Fan Gung Fu, grappling, kali, kickboxing, and everything else anyone could ever want in a JKD book. Also, it is VERY well written and has very helpful pictures. Mr. Balicki knows his stuff and it shows in this book. It has very helpful drills and techniques that can be easily learned and applied. It also has a cool (but not as helpful as I would have liked) section on handling group attacks. I highly recommend it!

Eclectic and interesting book By magellan I'm a pretty eclectic martial artist myself, having trained in Okinawan, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Filipino, and western systems, including empty-handed and weapons-based styles, so the very eclectic aspect of this book didn't bother me as much as some people. For me it's all "sauce for the goose," as they say. If you have primarily trained in one or two arts, this book will expose you to some other concepts, which is fine, too. For me, the most important aspect of the book was the section devoted to multiple attackers. From my own experience in training and teaching martial arts, this area is one of the most neglected. Other than the classic Nakayama and Draeger book on defense against multiple assailants, which of course was Shotokan-based, and Bucksom Kong's Tiger-Crane set Hung Gar book, which showed some applications of the form, there are few books on the market covering situations with multiple attackers. But these scenarios should be practiced also, especially by advanced students who are already compentent defending man-on-man with one attacker.

While it tends to be a little too philosophical it has great drills and training tips for any JKD practioner. I am an Asst. Instructor in JKD and I can tell you that I use a lot of the material from this book when I teach. Trust me get this Book!

The Evidence Behind the Hit Movie

The goal of God’s Not Dead: Evidence for God in an Age of Uncertainty is straightforward: to help readers develop “a faith that is real and credible—and strong enough to help others find faith in God.” To that end, Rice Broocks outlines a roadmap that guides seekers to acknowledge the most basic truths of Christianity:

  • There is overwhelming and exciting evidence for God’s existence
  • The God who exists is indeed the God of the Bible
  • God has revealed his nature through his Son, Jesus Christ

As shown during the movie, this is the original book on which the main character bases much of his debate points with the atheistic professor. Persuasive arguments crafted with tools borrowed from logic, science, and philosophy, as well as scripture, solidify the faith of the Christian reader and provide starting points for discussions with skeptics. With clear, easy-to-follow explanations of key concepts and controversies, God’s Not Dead is apologetics for the twenty-first century, presented in layman’s terms. Readers will be empowered not only to talk about their own faith with confidence but to lead others to a relationship with Jesus.

By Peter Dusan This book is a great read, and I would go as far as to say that it is crucially important for any thinker in today's culture.Up until reading this book, my favorite apologetics book was Tim Keller's THE REASON FOR GOD. God's Not Dead is comparable to Keller's work in the filtering of complex truth into simple, yet profound ideas. Beyond that, the distinct quality of Broocks' book is his ability to make cutting, yet respectful statements against the particular lies being propagated by postmodern culture.Furthermore, Broocks includes reference to an extensive bibliography of different opinions on all sides of these issues, and he has properly selected only the key issues of our day.Simply put, this is a fun, important, humorous, witty, and thoughtful read.

Nine Arguments for Christians to Use Against the Ideas of Atheists By Nancy Famolari Rice Brooks has written an extremely useful book for believers, and for non-believers who want to know more about God. In nine chapters, Brooks addresses the most critical debating points about God's existence: naturalistic vs. theistic worldviews; faith vs; reason: the reality of the existence of good and evil; instantaneous creation of the universe; Darwinian evolution vs. an intelligent creator; the purpose of life; the Resurrection; scripture as history, not fiction; and the Grace effect. Each chapter tackles one of these nine issues. Rice's points are buttressed by numerous cites to other authors. I also found it an excellent device to include arguments for Dawkins, a well known atheist, and the answers formulated by committed Christians to his points. The chapters on the Resurrection and the historical accuracy of the scripture are particularly important. I won't go into all the arguments, but those two chapters are well worth reading for anyone. Some of the other chapters deal with philosophical arguments, if you're not familiar with the philosophers, it may take a little longer, and perhaps some additional study, to become easily conversant with the arguments. One of my favorite parts of the book was a testament by Dr. Augusto Cury. Dr. Cury is a well known psychiatrist and author. As a committed atheist, he decided to study the man, Jesus Christ. What he discovered brought him to a sincere faith in Christianity. He believed that Christ didn't fit the characteristics of someone who would want to be the leader of a revolution, no neurotic need for control and power over others. Jesus' responses to the dreadful events as his life approached the cross were unbelievably calm and forgiving. Jesus was a very unique man to exhibit the characteristics he did. This study convinced Cury that this was no ordinary man. His analysis is well worth reading.I highly recommend this book. It's an easy, relatively quick read. However, for those who are interested there are many references that allow for further study.I reviewed this book for the Thomas Nelson Booksneeze Program.

That tiny little label doesn't define who I am as a person, no matter how hard some evangelists want to insist that it does. Although I left the Christian faith many years ago, I am still quite fascinated with the historical, psychological, and philosophical aspects of many religions, I find plenty to admire in some of their ethical teachings, and I enjoy respectful and engaging discussions with those of faith. I do not think most believers are irrational, angry, or careless in their beliefs. I have read and continue to read books by a number of intelligent and thoughtful theists, from John Spong to Richard Bauckham to Alvin Plantinga. For various reasons, I disagree with the traditional ontological conclusion drawn by many theists, that a personal, supreme creator exists. That is about the extent of my atheism; I don't think science explains everything, I don't think all religions are harmful. From my conversations with fellow non-theists, I know I'm far from alone in holding this position.I decided to pick up this book after seeing the film of the same name starring Kevin Sorbo and Shane Harper. Frankly, I was disgusted at the film's childish portrayal of both atheists and Christians that essentially took the form of a Jack Chick tract. Despite having the premise of debating the 'case for god', the movie was also woefully lacking in actual arguments and evidence. Having seen reverend Broocks' name in the credits as apologetics researcher, I looked him up and ordered this book. I half-expected it to be as bad as the film, and half-expected it to be a pleasant surprise.Straight from the introduction, we see the type of book this is going to be. Broocks tells the story - one of many such stories throughout the text - of a man who struggled with his faith when challenged on it by atheists. About these atheists Rice tells us, "They feast on unprepared religious people who unintelligently hold to beliefs they've merely inherited, who have only a secondhand faith." (p. xii) One night this doubting believer heard the voice of god, not offering answers, not revealing miraculous insights, but only asking, "Who do you think you're talking to?" Since then, he has gotten right with god and now knows how to answer any skeptic and how to help any doubting believer. All that's missing is the 'happily ever after' tag.Our author spends the first two chapters blasting non-believers with much the same rhetoric he condemns the New Atheists for using against the faithful. "Unbelief is the Product of Not Thinking" is the title of one section, and when skeptics assert the existence of god, says Rice, they "unwittingly head down the long, dark road to insanity." While this book lists skeptics as one of its target audiences, it's incredibly difficult to imagine something so full of trash-talking will persuade anyone not already convinced. The arguments made in the remaining eight chapters run the gamut from conventional to outlandish. The moral argument is provided with no justification for why objective values exist, and, like many defenses of it, there is breathtakingly little said on how god can be a ground of value and why there need be one at all. The first premise of the cosmological argument, that whatever begins to exist has a cause, is asserted as "undoubtedly true" and left at that, despite the ambiguity of 'beginning' to exist and our limited experience, where matter and energy merely change forms. The fine-tuning argument is defended mainly by ridiculing a naturalistic bias, though Christian philosophers Tim and Lydia McGrew have criticized it too, and they certainly are not guilty of wanting to rule out god. The resurrection argument is perhaps the most thorough in the book, though a lot of time is spent on defending a historical Jesus, and there is really no discussion of common counter-arguments to the empty tomb (absent from Paul's letters), the stolen body rumor (only in Matthew), and the growth of the early church (Keith Hopkins and others have argued that Christians were only 10% of Rome by 300 CE).The more outlandish arguments are the witness of scripture, the growth of modern Christianity, the grace effect, and a chapter defending creationism. The grace effect purports to show that "life is demonstrably better where authentic Christianity flourishes", yet no definition is given for 'authentic' Christianity, and no measure is provided for what constitutes a better life. This is an empirical claim with an empirical answer, but the author is unwilling to do the leg work. The popularity of modern Christianity commits the fallacy of appealing to the majority, and could equally have been used by the ancient Romans against the budding Christian sect in the first three centuries. The witness of scripture provides an interesting look at the history and backstory of the Bible, but is ultimately muddled in Broocks' own conflicting statements about how the Bible is to be believed on the word of Jesus, yet the Bible is evidence for god. The Bible is reliable because it's from god and we know god exists because of the Bible - a circular argument. Finally, the creationism chapter rehashes several claims debunked time and time again even by theistic evolutionists like Ken Miller. Irreducible complexity, seemingly the crux of the chapter, is itself an argument from ignorance, taking our current (alleged) lack of an evolutionary explanation for some phenomenon to indicate that said phenomenon just could not have evolved. There is so much to say about God's Not Dead and so little space here. I have written a chapter-by-chapter critique at my website, GodlessHaven dot com, for those interested in more in-depth analysis. The book primarily alternates between citing from a set of favorite apologists (C.S. Lewis, John Lennox, William Lane Craig, Hugh Ross) and a set of punching-bag atheists (Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Lawrence Krauss), and tends to meander a lot, spanning several talking points in each chapter. A number of big questions and major theological topics are given short shrift, and there is a pervasive tone of arrogance and anger behind it all. If this is the book reverend Rice would give to college students like Shane Harper's character, I truly feel for those students. The arguments are poorly made, surface level rejoinders meant to confirm one's own beliefs, framed in such a way as to stonewall real discussion. No informed skeptic or well-read atheist will be persuaded by anything here, and I can imagine some young aspiring apologists may be turned off by it for many of the same reasons. If you're looking for something to strengthen your faith, or to help strengthen your children's faith, please avoid God's Not Dead. Practically any of the Christian sources cited by Broocks will be a better alternative, particularly C.S. Lewis or John Lennox. God's Not Dead is propaganda-style apologetics, the kind with an especially hateful view of dissenting voices. I may be an atheist, but I am no less able to see the wisdom in a teaching such as "love your enemies, do good to them" (Luke 6:35), and this wisdom reminds me to be fair and truthful in how I represent opposing views. There is enough tribalism and hatred in the world already, and fortunately there are many better books available than God's Not Dead.

By Crystal Baranyk It's very expensive for a book printed in black and white. Also, it would have been nice if both Jill and the silk were more contrasting in color, because sometimes it is difficult to tell exactly what is going on. I really appreciate her youtube videos, and I feel like the cost of this is, in a way, going towards those. She is very talented and very good at explaining a lot of difficult moves. I can't decide if this book is a three or a four star resource, but I am glad she authored it and put it out there.

I came across Jill Franklin's first book, 'Beginner's Guide to Aerial Silk', about six months ago and WOW!!! I was amazed out how much information the book contained. In just a few short weeks as I continued practicing the techniques from Jill's book, I couldn't believe how much more noticeable my upper body strength improved and I was much more flexible.I also follow Jill on her YouTube channel, where she demonstrates many of her movements and I learned she was wrapping up production of her second book. I just searched Amazon and Jill's second book is now available.I look forward to ordering a copy and can't wait to expand my knowledge of Aerial Silk. YOU'RE AN AWESOME MOTIVATOR AND A GREAT COACH. The pictures are small and difficult to figure out because Jill and the fabrics are blending together. If the book cover shows red silks, then it would have made sense to use red silks inside the book. The book is a bit pricey. Probably would have been even more pricey with color photography!
