When someone hurts us, our natural response is to strike back. Rather than let go, we cling to our rocks of resentment, our boulders of bitterness. The result? We struggle under the weight of unforgiveness.

Though we know God has called us to forgive others, we find ourselves asking:

  • What if it hurts too much to forgive?
  • What if the other person isn't sorry?
  • How can I let someone off the hook for doing something so wrong?

Biblical counselor June Hunt has been there herself, enabling her to speak from experience as she offers biblical help and hope with heartfelt compassion. If you've been pinned down under a landslide of pain, here's how to find true freedom through forgiveness.

Review "You can always trust June Hunt to take us right to God's Word for answers to tough issues. How to Forgive...When You Don't Feel Like It is an excellent resource for anyone who has been hurt or wounded. I am confident this book will bless you as you seek the 'freedom of forgiveness' that only Christ can provide." --Dr. Richard Land, president, The Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission"Just as love is a verb, not a feeling--so is forgiveness. If we forgave based on feelings, we would never forgive any injustice done to us and most likely we would never be forgiven for an injustice we committed. But God has shown us, by example, how to forgive. June Hunt has provided us a personal and powerful tool in learning to forgive. Read How to Forgive...When You Don't Feel Like It and leave the rocky coast of resentment for everlasting freedom." --Tim Wilkins, director of Cross Ministry"People all over the world come to June to find God's truth for today's problems. Her amazing insights have helped me personally through the difficult issues of forgiveness. I know they will help you." --Debbie Brunson, author, speaker, and colleague in ministry to pastor's wives"Page by page, June walks you through the step-by-step process to forgive...yes, even the 'unforgivable.' If you want your days ahead to be better than the days gone by, this is a must-read for you." --Dr. Tony Evans, senior pastor, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, president, The Urban Alternative "True forgiveness is possible, no matter how much you've been hurt. June's personal journey is proof!" --Suellen Roberts, founder and president, Women in Christian Media"Is bitterness robbing you of God's best? After reading this book, you'll want to release your 'rocks of resentment' and find lasting freedom." --Alan Chambers, president, Exodus International, author of God's Grace and the Homosexual Next Door"Those of us who have had to forgive the unforgivable will find tremendous hope in healing. She speaks from the heart with truth, directly to your broken soul." --Stephen Arterburn, founder, New Life Ministries and author of Healing as a Choice and How to Talk to Your Kids About Drugs

Great book about the power of forgiveness By Christina Lockstein How to Forgive When You Don't Feel Like It by June Hunt is a terrific book about the power of forgiveness, not just on the recipient, but on the giver as well. Hunt uses the analogy of a bag of rocks for the weight of unforgiveness that we carry around with us. These rocks of anger and bitterness weigh us down until it is difficult to move. She uses rocks in various metaphors throughout the rest of the book with varying effectiveness. The pressure used to make diamonds is appropriate to describe how God uses trials to make us shine. But Hunt is at her best when explaining why forgiveness is so vital. I was struggling with some issues in this area myself, and I read the book looking for answers. Hunt's most important point: forgiveness isn't a feeling. It's not something we can just do on our own. It's difficult and occasionally painful, and we need God's strength to do it, but in doing it, we will be blessed. Not only by God's forgiveness of us in return, but also in releasing his blessings to us. I took the steps that Hunt recommended and asked God to help me forgive certain people. It immediately gave me peace in my own mind when I didn't have to think about the hurt. But surprisingly (without me saying anything to the ones who hurt me), they made several gestures of goodwill. Hunt helped me to see that by holding my anger close, I was holding God's blessings away. Even if there aren't results like I experienced, forgiveness is essential for our spiritual growth. Hunt includes several anecdotes about anger and forgiveness, even exposing her own hurts for the reader. The book is written in a non-preachy style that's easy to empathize with. If you're hurting, this book can help bring balm to your soul.

By abe basicly, this whole book is mostly based on a rock analogy.which is,all your unresolved problems are like a giant bag full of rocks you are carrying around.at some point, you wont be able to move.the only way to move forward with your life is to start emptying the bag.the only way to do that is by forgiveness. a star saphire reflects light all around it.june says to look at your heart in much the same way.and let it reflect god's love all over your heart.now instead of a mangled, shattered, broken mess,i see god's love when i visualize my heart. i also learned that forgiveness is not letting someone off of the hook.it's giving that person over to god and letting him deal with it.he is infinitely wise and will know exactly what to do with them.and,in case, you are thinking well god will just forgive them.it says that those who victimize walk in a dark world.in a dark world its hard to see and the evil will definately fall again and again. when you get rid of your stones, your baggage is gone.you have gained something far greater than baggage.and that is freedom. this book even so far as to tackle the more philisophical religion vs science questions like if there is a god then why is there suffering.the answer quite simply is that is there was nothing offensive in the world there wouldnt be much of anything here. i read this book because i have a lot of people who are supposed to be close to me who have victimized me my whole life.i belive that i had to go into that store that day because god wanted me to run into this book.it has cleared up so many things. there are 3 very helpful prayers in this book.1 is about filtering out negativity in your mind.1 is for accepting jesus and god.the last is for forgiving the offenders.i had a hard time accepting the idea of praying for the offenders to be forgiven.but,if nothing else, they wont be able to victimize you or anyone else again. besides the bible itself, this is the most helpful and inpiring book ive ever read in my life.

Not only how to forgive with Scripture based facts, so beneficial to healing oneself, but the reasons and examples of reconciliation help to make the healing go full circle. Getting permission to forgive is important but that doesn't mean there has to be reconciliation at the same time........this could possibly come some time in the future.
