He has appeared on the Glenn Beck TV program, writes on faith issues for The Blaze, and is a contributor to CNS News. Spero has testified before Congress and spoken at a meeting of the National Press Club.

It is a painless and entertaining way of absorbing the FACTS about Israel and those who would destroy her. People frequently ask me what they can do to enter the fight to defend western civilization. The first thing that I tell them is that they need to learn the facts. This book is an antidote to the lies that are repeated so often in the Media, at universities, in all the nooks and crannies of our society that dish out the falsehoods about Israel that masquerade as truth. It is an entertaining, quick read that will arm you with the arrows necessary to defeat the savages who hate both Israel and the United States. I urge you to read it.

Healing, My Journey Home by Meachele Mothership Montgomery Born Meachele Ronald in Berlin, Germany to Erika and Floyd Ronald, a 28 year Army Veteran. She became an Army Brat who followed the family around the globe. Before serving in the U.S. Navy, she graduated from the University of Chapel Hill, NC with a degree in Anthropology. After marrying her husband, Ray, in Wales, she resigned her commission in 1986. She became a full time mom and helped with play groups. Once her third son was born, the family was stationed back in Wales. The family enjoyed horses and hiked over the countryside. Meachele's husband, Ray, retired from the U.S. Navy in 1998, and they built their dream home in the mountains of North Carolina. The family continued exploring the mountains near Mount Rogers, Va. Meachele and Ray dreamed of hiking the Appalachian Trail with their younger son, Eric, but that won't happen. In March 2011, Meachele decided to hike the trail with her dog, Cianna.

Just found the time to read it, and I couldn't put it down. I read it from cover to cover. I loved it. Found out a little I didn't know about you, but reaffirmed so much that I did. Such as, you were only a few days ahead of me for 3 months! Probably just a day or two in the Shenandoah's. I was asked if I had seen a journal, yours! And from all the trail names you mention in the book, I met so many of them. Your book brought back a lot of memories for me.I expected to hear your story of healing, which would benefit anyone struggling with loss, personal tragedy, or life change. But there's so much more in the book. It's a must read for anyone thinking of hiking the Appalachian Trail. It covers the experiences, hardships, relationships, and so much more, of hiking the trail. Great insight on what to expect on the trail. But most of all, your book covers the bonds that are forged between hikers. I am so thankful to have you as a friend and hiking companion. Keep writing, you're good at it. And keep hiking, you love it so.Moondoggie

Not for the faint of heart By Pamela Guion I meet Meachele at the coffee shop a month ago and bought her book. I have hiked portions of the AT and as a through hiker, she gives you a very realistic view of what it is like. Not for the faint of heart. However she shows the healing power of the great outdoors and the good that comes from enduring physical and emotional challenges. Whether you enjoy hiking or just want to be inspired by this fast reading account of Mothership's experience, it is worth the read.

However, this collection of thoughts, feelings and journeys is very captivating and eye opening. I finished the book in less than 24 hours. I don't know if it was because I wanted some in site into her journey, or for personal reasons. No mater what is going on in your life, there is a way to get through it. The question is what is going to be your way, your journey home?

By Wendy Mitchell This is the single best resource I've ever read about marriage help aside from the Bible itself. This book details both the behavior patterns of the self-centered spouse and the usual frustrations and responses of the abused spouse, but it doesn't stop there...this resource brings a rare hope by suggesting practical ways to interact with the offending spouse and to petition the Lord on his/her behalf. This book is wise, concise and relevant, to say the least.

Is the glossy paper intended to put this book in the high-price textbook market? I can't comment on the content yet. I got halfway through and my eyes hurt too much to continue.A week later . . . I increased the stars from two to four, and would have given five except I hate reading on shiny paper. This book is difficult reading. I'm not an economist, but with a good deal of effort, I am able to follow the symbolic notation. I've learned some important things about the AHA from it. As the ACA rolls out, many self-employed people and small business owners I know are freaking out, and it really helps to understand what's happening in the detailed terms presented here.

Provocative, personal, and completely worthwhile By Amazon Customer For many years Professor O’Connor taught a popular philosophy course at Notre Dame called “Ancient Wisdom and Modern Love.” After the university recorded his lectures and uploaded them to the web, they went viral in China, of all places. Plato’s Bedroom is the English version of a book already published in Asia, a book based on the transcriptions of O’Connor’s lectures.Why is "Love is Barefoot Philosophy," as it is titled in Asia, so worth reading?The esteemed philosophers who reviewed the book called it a ‘potion against disenchantment,’ a masterpiece informed by religious faith as well as ‘faith in the value of philosophy,’ a ‘joy to read.’ “Plato’s dialogues have found their interpreter for our times,” said one reviewer.In my opinion, the book is so worth reading because Professor David O’Connor is so worth knowing.I had the wonderful opportunity of creating the book’s index, so I know it well. O’Connor’s voice manages to resonate from every page. He is a top-rate scholar, an engaging teacher, a wise soul, and a good man.He’s also provocative. What he says about sexuality in particular will likely disturb or unsettle you, whether or not you share his Catholic Weltanschauung. But students from all corners of the university and the world continue to seek O’Connor’s mentorship and insight for a reason. I highly recommend this book!!

By Nephew of Olorus Plato’s Bedroom is a superb book, sensitive and thought-provoking, often vigorous, and always captivating. I recommend it very highly.O’Connor concentrates on one particular topic, Plato’s investigation of eros (rendered by O’Connor both as “erotic” and “romantic love”) in the Symposium, and intertwines a close reading of the Symposium with an investigation of several other works, primarily literary and cinematic ones, that enter into a dialogue with issues raised by Plato’s work: the Phaedrus (which is Plato’s other great work on eros), Shakespeare’s Othello and Midsummer Night’s Dream, the story of Adam and Eve in Genesis, the Gospel of Mathew, Thomas Mann’s novella Death in Venice, the short stories of Andre Dubus, and several movies from the last thirty years by directors such as Atom Egoyan, Woody Allen, Patrice Leconte, and others. O’Connor shows his reader that issues first raised by Plato in the Symposium reverberate throughout the centuries and are picked up in a host of very different subsequent works. Through this approach, O’Connor enables his reader to experience the vital claim that antiquity, through its dialogue with the subsequent tradition, still has on us today. For example, O’Connor highlights the recurring theme of people’s attempts to deflate love, a force that the Greeks considered to be divine, into something controllable and manageable. By taming eros in this way, people evade the extraordinary claim that love makes on them. Another central theme is the antithesis, explored in Plato and picked up in several later works, between two conceptions of love, namely love understood as the fascination with a specific, concrete individual versus love as the striving after a higher ideal. Exploring the tension between these two conceptions of love, O’Connor finds instances both of sharp discrepancy and of successful mitigation.Apart from enabling the reader to experience the vitality of the issues raised by Plato’s philosophy, a further great, but rare, achievement of O’Connor’s book is its astonishingly seamless combination of the scholarly and the popular. If I were to teach a class at the university level on Plato’s Symposium, I would be sure to assign several sections from this book to my students. To the scholarly reader, one of O’Connor’s most fascinating claims is the thesis that the Symposium strives towards what O’Connor calls an “androgynous” account of eros: an understanding of erotic love that combines both male and female aspects and that challenges the predominantly male, O’Connor calls it “macho,” atmosphere prevailing in the early speeches of the dialogue. O’Connor’s scholarly contributions notwithstanding, Plato’s Bedroom will speak equally well to interested general readers. For one thing, the book, without ever being facile or cheap, presupposes no prior knowledge of ancient philosophy. Yet the main reason for the book’s accessibility lies elsewhere, namely in O’Connor’s exhilarating and riveting style: it is both sinewy and elegant and combines a punchy directness with a stance that is both thoughtful and nuanced.All of these virtues derive, I think, from O’Connor’s wholehearted dedication to the pursuit of philosophical questions that are not academic in a narrow sense but rooted in fundamental and profound experiences, which confront every human being. It's hard to find real wisdom today By Margie Meacham Plato's Bedroom applies the wisdom of Plato and Socrates to our modern day world and shows us how to give and receive love. It's hard to find real wisdom today, but Dave O'Connor has found it in this book. He makes ancient philosophy accessible even if you have no previous background and gives you practical ways to use it to find and sustain love in your life. It's a quick read. I couldn't put it down.

It is written in simple language. This should not compared with technical commentaries that serve a different roleIt is a bit hard for e to review as I have te Kindle version and it is hard going back and forward between the book and writing the review.This book is lucidly written you may think it is a piece f cake but try explaining the information covered without recouce to the book. You get to see how he structures the material and how this leads to people picking up the points easilySome pointsHe notes thatIt is the Fruit of the SpiritThese are contrasted to the works o the FleshWe cannot grow them-they come from the Spirit. An apple remoe from the tree does not keep growing. It needs the tree's nourishment.He asks if all of us should have all the fruits of the Spirit or are they to be spread around various members in the congregationHe looks at what the works of the flesh are and shows that Christ's death dealt them a fatal blow. Sin now longer has power over us. He does discuss remaining sin latter on. He uses the illustration of Abaham Lincoln, the liberatios of the slaves in the South and how the Slave was free from the time of that enactment [ I write as a New Zealander ] the actual tie for the slave to live as fully free took time [I have badly stated this-get the bookand see exactly what he said.He looks at Galatians which has a number of useful points.If I remember correctly related to Ezekiel 37: 27 to the coming of the Spirit ang obeying God's law. By Barbara Schwartz This clearly-written accessible book would be helpful to church governing boards, also known as councils, sessions, or vestries, to understand how congregational expectations about pastors that lead to overfunctioning can work against the health of congregations and pastors alike. I wish the authors had given more attention to how the book can be used by church boards and lay leaders as well as clergy, but that's my only quibble. The discussion of congregations as chronically anxious systems is very valuable.

It goes beyond the traditional topics about clergy misconduct and looks at more comprehensive boundary issues. I recommend this for all clergy. Harry Jones embodies the persona of a modern day Prophet in the manner in which he shares his “cured soul”, his open and candid testimony. A prophet is a person sent with a message to give to someone else. The essence of Prophesy is that one must be connected to God through experiences from God. So Harry, “Go tell it on the mountains, over the hills and everywhere”. Your rich testimony has set me free in many ways. I do know currently the fuss concerning the subject because the book was ready to tell you the important issue concerning it. The book has everything and its terribly elaborated its descriptions therefore it's terribly useful. I realize the last half most helpful. I would like to use the oils to form some remedies because it is explicit here.

Love that it was easy to read and a great reference for essential oil recipes By Hanes I have read many books on essential oils and I can tell that is a great book on essential oils. Though there are many books out there on essential oils but I got this one simply because it was recommended to me by a friend. This book is equipped with information on the application of essential oils using four different methods. The recipes are a useful guide for me as I love mixing and testing out essential oils for the many different purposes. Everything were clearly explained with images making reading on kindle more interesting.

It started with a phone call, both mildly alarming and somewhat annoying. Mary, our 22 year old daughter, an unfinished senior at the University of Texas at Austin, had been having trouble with her upper right leg. In July, she had fallen while water skiing and the leg was still giving her trouble. Finally, in August, the doc had ordered an MRI and thought she had a hematoma causing the problem. That meant coming home for treatment, probably surgery, followed by convalescence We, Mom and Dad (Sue and Jim) had been struggling with Mary for a while over “launching” issues: out of college money, finish or go to work, some issues regarding her current lifestyle, somewhat typical struggles of middle class parents and their kids. Before the call, she had opted to apply for an airline stewardess job; now she was coming home for an uncertain amount of time. Of course, we said OK, though feeling a little put out, but ready to cope with 5 or 6 weeks of post-surgery healing. None of us had any idea of what was coming. There was indeed a hematoma, but it was caused by a large and malignant tumor. From the start, Sue began to record events. This brief book presents her many “no holds barred” reflections on the events, as seen through the eyes of a mother and some as viewed by Mary herself, but reflecting the journey of the whole family, Mary’s medical providers, our friends, and our spiritual caregivers as we passed through the months of her illness and death. Sue pulls no punches – every event and emotion is here. These events occurred from August, 1986 to May, 1988, for 20 months, over 25 years ago now. Over the years, Sue and I have discussed the possibly of sharing our story. Our motives: it might help others; honor Mary’s faith and courage; demonstrate that a marriage and family can survive.

Sue's courageous decision to share the raw truth of their experience makes this story relatable to every parent of a teen or young adult. Through Sue's and Mary's journal entries written during the 20 months from diagnosis to Mary's death, we watch Sue and Mary move from the typical mother/daughter tension and frustration of Mary's 20-something desire for independence while still remaining irresponsible to a loving place of mutual understanding and acceptance. This is a story for any family dealing with cancer, but it is a must for the AYA cancer community (adolescence and young adult), as we see Mary and her parents grapple with decisions over her hair loss, loss of employment, fertility, spirituality, and ultimately, finding the right balance for who makes the big decisions. Mary's Story is gripping, agonizing, and beautiful.

By Amazon Customer Mary’s Story is a poignant account of a vibrant free spirited young lady cut down in her prime by a malignant soft tissue tumor of her leg. Much like Freddie Steinmark despite all attempts treatment failed and she succumbed. Mary refused to let the cancer define her life and remained positive until the end. The story, written by her Mother, goes in depth about the severe disruption to the family (mom, dad and three other children) and how it was dealt with in a positive way. The account goes into detail about how the family wandered between tough love and empathy before and after the diagnosis. I can relate to that as I lost a daughter at a young age who was much like Mary and vacillated between working hard and being overwhelmed. The parts about the treatment decisions are well done. She had a team of compassionate physicians who tried to make the best of a horrible heartrending situation. Being treated at a Trauma Center caused some frustration at times as elective procedures had to be delayed due to emergencies. For any family dealing with a child with a serious illness would benefit from the insights put forth in Mary’s Story

It is told with such raw candor, that it is hard sometimes to read. For me, it brought back many memories of Jim Stedman in our early years--catechism, nuns, first communion, Fr. Floyd, your parents, Maple Street, Jack, going up the stairs to your father's office and the smell of alcohol (or whatever was used to sterilize instruments), the pain of drilling and filling teeth.I had three family members die of sarcoma: fibrosarcoma, liposarcoma, and my mother died at age 53 of leiomyosarcoma (a sarcoma that begins in the heart). During the time that Mary and your family were going through the ordeal I was making a career change. We were involved with career and paying for kids in college, and did not even know about Mary.You, Sue and your family came through this ordeal intact and perhaps stronger. I know of other couples who did not do as well (as you point out in the book).
