By Serafina Mezzanotte This journal is a companion to Kim Buck’s other book, The Thriving Women's Guide to Setting Boundaries. I enjoyed that book and when the time came that I wanted to take my journey into setting boundaries a little further, I realized I need some external process to help me get through what was keeping me stuck. I could think about it all day, but putting the questions and answers in black and white, as you do in a journal, that you can refer to and re-read, really makes all the difference.Journaling is a way to gain a deeper understanding of whatever issue is facing you, and the author understands that concept. As the author suggests, start by asking yourself, “Is it selfish to set boundaries?” You may have a lot of obstacles to help you understand and come to terms with your answer, whatever that is.The author’s questions are designed to give you deeper insight into your thoughts, feelings, patterns, habits and belief systems that may be keeping you stuck. Each chapter begins with an explanation of something, such as chapter 7’s question, “Is Guilt Necessary?” The questions that follow get to the heart of whether you experienced guilt as a child, for instance, or whether or not you believe that feeling guilt is a choice. there is ample room to answer each question right within the book, so the book becomes an amazing, deep resource that you can keep with you and look at whenever you need it.I learned a lot about myself while working through these questions. It can take a lot of work and real inward realization to make it through this book, but even if you just answer the questions that are “easy,” you will still get a lot out of it. I must say, the thing that bothered me is that some chapters use the small “tm” as the trademark symbol after each use of the terms that the author has trademarked, Mother Energy, Daughter Energy and Woman Energy. It would make for a better reading experience if there was some “disclaimer” early on in the book that each term is trademarked. I found the repeated use distracting, but there are only three chapters out of a 19-chapter book that this is a frequent issue. Maybe there’s no other way to handle that.Over all, I would highly recommend this book as a companion to Buck’s book “The Thriving Woman’s Guide to Setting Boundaries.” I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
