Where Will You Spend Eternity? The drama of salvation involves every man, woman, and child on earth. In this life, all of us are suspended between heaven and hell. Few people understand what Jesus did or how it affects us. Worse yet, there are endless squabbles between Christians of different persuasions, leading to confusion on a massive scale. In this book, Jimmy Akin uses his expertise in Scripture and Church teaching to cut through the confusion and provide clear answers on important issues like: • What we need to do to be saved • Whether salvation is a one-time event or a process • Whether penance is part of God’s plan • What indulgences are • How faith and works relate • What the Church teaches about justification • How far apart Protestants and Catholics are on this question • Whether you have to be a Catholic (or a Christian) to be saved No other book takes on these questions with the clarity and precision that Akin brings to them…and the answer will affect you and those you love . . . forever.

Review "Redemption is a beautiful and profound mystery, the fruit of true, authentic, and unmerited friendship with Jesus Christ. In The Drama of Salvation, Jimmy Akin explains Scripture and Catholic doctrine to reveal the divine love at the heart of our salvation. This book will be meaningful to anyone who desires to serve God in this life, and to be happy in heaven with him for eternity." -- The Most Reverend James Conley "Bishop of Lincoln Nebraska""The most important truths anyone could hope to know are those that pertain to what must we do to be saved. Jimmy Akin has written a fine book that carefully and clearly explores this topic using biblical, Patristic, and magisterial material. The Drama of Salvation is a very useful resource for those who wish to embrace the Church's call to evangelization. " -- Ralph Martin "President, Renewal Ministries""In his usual clear and precise style, Jimmy Akin wrestles with the topic of justification before God. Using Scripture and Sacred Tradition, Akin explains salvation for the scholar and the novice alike, distilling down all the perspectives to an understandable and clear-cut conclusion. This book should be in the hands of every person concerned with -- Steve Ray "Author, Crossing the Tiber: Evangelical Protestants Discover the Historical Church"
About the Author Jimmy Akin was born in Texas and grew up nominally Protestant. At age 20 he experienced a profound conversion to Christ. Planning on becoming a Protestant pastor or seminary professor, Jimmy started an intensive study of the Bible, but the more he immersed himself in Scripture, the more he found it to support the Catholic faith. Eventually, he was compelled in conscience to enter the Catholic Church, which he did in 1992. His conversion story, "A Triumph and a Tragedy," is published in the book Surprised By Truth. Akin is a Senior Apologist at Catholic Answers, a member on the Catholic Answers Speakers Bureau, a weekly guest on the global radio program, Catholic Answers Live, a contributing editor for Catholic Answers Magazine, and the author of numerous publications, including the books Mass Confusion, The Salvation Controversy, The Fathers Know Best, Mass Revision, and newly released The Drama of Salvation.

Through the course of the past 6 years I have heard both sides of the argument concerning the Protestant verses Catholic viewpoints concerning the questions of our salvation. I had thought I had heard all there is to hear when it came to the defense of the Catholic doctrines and dogmas from many of our great apologists out there from Tim Staples to Patrick Madrid. However, Jimmy Akin took me down a path which helped me to organize my apologetic closet concerning the matters of sola scriptura, purgatory and faith alone (to name a few). His approach to these topics is methodical and logical and he slowly but surely sets the stage and lures you into the Catholic perspective and explains why the Catholic perspective is the correct teaching on these often misinterpreted doctrines and he does this in a very respectful manner to those who oppose the Catholic teaching. In fact, he explains the Protestant doctrines better than I could have when I was a Protestant. Mr. Akin gives plenty of food for thought and what impressed me the most is that he uses the Bible more than any other source as his authority for his understanding and perspective. Yes he still uses the Catechism and will quote the early Church fathers but does so without “beating them to death”.He begins his book by setting the stage with matters such as salvation as a past, present and future and ongoing process. He points out how we ourselves play a vital role in others salvation. He continues on further into his work and I can honestly say this book is hard to put down. It is truly the best apologetic work on the principles of Salvation I have ever read and am so glad to have copy of it. I will use the typical clichés and tell you that this book is a must have and a must read. After the first few chapters you will begin to understand why Jimmy Akin is one of the most influential apologist of our time and why he is such a popular guest on Catholic answers. As an aspiring apologist, I thought I had a good handle on this subject. If you are like me, then you will find that this book will take you even further into depths and understandings you never considered before. If you are a Protestant, then get yourself a copy of this book and I guarantee it will give you answers to those gnawing questions I know you have about certain Bible passages that either don't add up for you in relation to what your church teaches or you have chosen to ignore. All I can say is "Well done Mr. Akin"!

A great piece for a fruitful dialogue between Catholics and Protestants By Stuart Dunn The Drama of Salvation is the latest book from Jimmy Akin, senior apologist at Catholic Answers. The main aim of this book is to open a dialogue between Catholics and Protestants where they understand what the other is talking about. Akin hopes that Catholics and Protestants will stop talking at each other or past each other and instead engage in real and meaningful conversations, where they come to the realization that they either agree on some points or their disagreements aren't as drastic as often thought. There are nine chapters and seven bonus sections. The chapter titles are as follows:1. The Drama of Salvation2. Salvation Past, Present, and Future3. Temporal and Eternal Salvation4. Doing Penance5. Indulgences6. Faith, Works, and Boasting7. Justification in Catholic Teaching8. Justification and Ecumenism9. Outside the Church, No Salvation? The chapters were busting at the seams with information and very well organized. Akin used not only the Catechism to make his point, but relied heavily on Scripture. In his use of Scripture, he helped clarify key points regarding salvation that would make for effective dialogue with Protestants. I found this especially true in the chapters on justification. For the most part, Protestants have a view of salvation and justification being a one-time thing. They also believe that their salvation cannot be lost. Akin, with the use of Scripture, explains that Catholics believe that salvation is an ongoing process. He also shows how justification happened in the past, the present, and will in the future. Akin goes further to explain that the original Reformers actually had very Catholic beliefs about salvation and justification, and that ideas like "once saved always saved" are fairly new to the scene. One of the most helpful chapters for me was the one on indulgences. As a former Protestant, I still struggle with this Church teaching. This chapter answered a lot of my questions, and made me feel a bit more at ease with the subject. I can't say that it was a light switch that flipped and I'm Mr. Indulgence now, but I do have a new understanding and respect for them and hope to slowly become more accepting of them and utilize them. This chapter is great for Protestants, converts, and even cradle Catholics. In addition to the nine chapters listed above, there are also bonus sections. I won't list them all out, but as a Pope Benedict XVI fan, it's no surprise my favorite one was "Pope Benedict XVI on St. Paul and the Doctrine of Justification."I highly recommend this book for Catholics and Protestants. Most books written of this nature eventually turn into an attack on one side or the other. Instead, Mr. Akin does a masterful job of presenting just the facts in a way that both sides can better understand the other side. By doing this, he has provided a way for meaningful dialogue to occur. I know it is probably a pipe dream, but I would love to see this book written again, but replacing Protestantism with Eastern Orthodoxy. I often find myself wishing I could have better discussions with them, but maybe I am in the minority when it comes to that. Anyways, like I said earlier, I highly recommend this book, and recommend you buy it, read it, and re-read it. You won't be disappointed. I know I wasn't!

By Kyle Marx After 40 years of living throughout the US and Germany, I have attended many Protestant and Non-denominational churches. Five years ago by accident I ran across Catholic Radio and it was just at the right time because I couldn't validate the positions that I had always been taught and I started a search and education through Yale and Notre Dame and then Jimmy Akins and Tim Staples. This book answered more questions in a building block like fashion that ended up educating me to a point where I was overwhelmed with the logic and never ending sense that the Catholic interpretation of the Bible was the only real answer and this book was like a Tsunami of evidence that simply washed away every doubt I had. I now read sections of it to my non-Catholic friends and they simply say "I have to check that out with my pastor, because the Bible can't mean that, I mean I see it right here in the Bible, but I never really read it or read it that way." They can never deny it, they are only in denial. I was there for most of my life and it is amazing how hard it was to finally open my mind and take out the biases that have been placed there. This book was like the explanation point of my studying. The truth simply is what it is and after reading this book, you cannot ignore it anymore. Peace.
