We think of serial killers when we hear the word psychopath, but the vast majority are not in prison, but walking among us. Lacking a conscience, they leave a path of destruction and despair as they pass through.
You will read in their own words how they approach relationships, how they manipulate their partners, and what they think about themselves and others.
“Dianne Emerson provides readers with the rare opportunity to enter the personal lives of three male psychopaths through their own words. Through the careful organization of their everyday stories of who, what, when and where, Emerson ultimately provides the building blocks for readers to understand why these individuals do what they do. Without such stories, there is little hope for understanding.” Carl B. Gacono, Ph.D. & Aaron J. Kivisto, Ph.D.
Perhaps you already suspect something wrong in your relationship. What can you do? Knowledge is power, so learn to recognize the behaviors and the tricks that psychopaths use to manipulate their prey. Will you recognize the mind games? Learn about “gaslighting” and the “victim card.” Learn not to trust what seems too good to be true. It probably isn’t.
“You will have a glimpse into the mind of the everyday psychopath, the one for whom you may work, the one whom you may run into in the grocery store or at the gym, or possibly the one with whom you live.” — Dianne Emerson
There is no doubt that there is at least one psychopath in your life. You may not even know it, as psychopaths are typically charming and persuasive. Your partner, your coworker, your boss, your neighbor – any one of them may be a psychopath. Psychopaths pursue their chosen victims with smooth talk and allure until they have total control. Then they play with them like a cat with a mouse, until they become bored and move on to the next target. Their victims feel abandoned and abused, but can’t understand what happened or how anyone could be so cruel.
Quotes from the interviewed psychopaths: “The person you need me to be in order to trust, confide in, support and promote is the person I will become. Being free of unpredictable emotional reactions and guilt, I am free to be whatever, whenever and then change that when necessary…” — “Bill”
“I was 11 when I knew I was not like other people because I saw someone die in front of me, and then everyone was so upset about it, and I didn't see why.” — “Steve”
“You don’t loudly sigh with boredom at a funeral. You probably don’t feel bored at a funeral. I do. Exceptionally so. And I suppose I may sometimes forget myself without realizing. There have been many occasions where people have been looking at me oddly for reasons unclear to me.” — Fred

I have been in a abusive relationship with someone I later figured out was a psychopath thanks to a great therapist pointing the By jean This is a fascinating book. I have been in a abusive relationship with someone I later figured out was a psychopath thanks to a great therapist pointing the way. Reading this book was like hearing him talk. At the time things he was saying seemed to make sense. His words in a weird way made sense at the time. If I had read it early in the relationship, I would of known to get out faster. Instead, I fell for the manipulative tricks, and am lucky to escape before losing even more money and friends. This is definitely a must-read for anyone whose partner is isolating them or convincing them they are crazy. It makes it all so clear to hear the psychopaths themselves explain how they go about controlling their partners. I was not aware of what gaslighting was until reading this book. This book really helped me to see that I wasn't in fact crazy like he used to suggest when I questioned things. When and if he calls again I have the tools to say NO. It has been sad to think that he never really loved or remotely cared about me. It was all a huge illusion. Much more real than most of the psychopath victim self-books.

Read so much it seemed like there was nothing new under the sun. Till I read this book, if you have studied from everything you can get your hands on like me, this is the next step, this will clarify all you have only so far seen fRom the other side

The reader will discover an entirely different approach to the subject of psychopathy. The information comes from the points of view of three self-identified psychopathic individuals. The author allowed the interviewees to tell their stories as they wished. There was a good balance of skepticism and open-mindedness. What was noticeably refreshing was the absence of the usual strident "anti-psychopath" ranting that is ever present in this genre. There is no sign of the usual rubber-stamp glossing over and stereotyping we normally find .In many ways, Emerson's book could be considered quite helpful to people who have been victimized by psychopathic, sociopathic, and narcissistic acquaintances, friends, and family members. Anybody who is interested in getting past their victim status and moving on with their lives will find nuggets of wisdom scattered informally throughout these pages.Regarding the subject of psychopathic behavior, Emerson's book opens the door to new ways of understanding this still arcane topic.
