Two People plus One Heart Equal a Saved Marriage By Donna Collins Tinsley Marriage on the Mend is a book that will not only help couples but could also lend help for reconciliation for whole families in crisis. It has been a long time since a nonfiction book has inspired me as much as this one has.Clint and Penny A. Bragg have paid their dues in hard work, study, application and more to bring us an example of God healing a marriage. I love the honesty of this couple. Transparency such as theirs is very seldom seen in the church and in the world.For Clint and Penny to let the world know about the true intimate situations of their marriage and what led to their first breakup and then their remarriage is an awesome gift to us.How interesting to me also were the QR codes that you can scan with a smart phone which were embedded within the chapters. They link you to free video pod casts which really enhance your reading experience. I love especially the pod cast themes starting with an introduction, prayer, roadblocks, discussions, margins, and also getting on the same page, which seems to be a common problem.There is much wisdom given about blanketing your marriage in prayer. Sometimes that seems hard to carry out as we find ourselves in the daily "tyranny of the urgent" that life brings but this book includes excellent prayer prompts and sample prayers.The marriage timeline suggested was the first thing that showed me that I was reading a well thought out book, similar to being in a counselor's office. Courageous conversations are an idea that I really need in my own marriage and elsewhere as how to handle conflict is something I struggle with personally. Some other things that I really needed was the Gradients of Agreement diagram, the sample of marriage standards and the book within a book with the Bible study on Nehemiah.I wasn't sure what a marriage missionary was until I read this book and I must say that Clint and Penny Bragg represent the very best example in that category. I also found the answer to the question I've had about why they call their ministry Inverse Ministry, but you'll have to read the book to find it yourself.I loved the word of hope towards the end that was, "This is our God. A God of healing and redemption. This is our God! A God who plucks sinners from the misery they've made of their lives, press their wounded souls tightly against His bosom, and makes them whole,"(Quote from Marriage on the Mend) Yes, yes, yes!Although my husband and I have never separated or divorced, life itself presents enough crises to interrupt the "happily ever after" that we all so long for. This will help you in your current marriage, your marriage to come or for your loved one. There are so many tools used in this book by using GOD'S WORD, and two imperfect people. I know some people don't believe in miracles but, I am here to tell you they still exist. I truly believe one of the greatest miracles today is the changed heart of man. When you are hurt, angry or even have unforgiveness toward a person or even God, you can say your forgive and your not angry but only YOU and GOD truly know your heart. I know from experience that GOD has used this book "Marriage on the Mend" and HIS WORD to heal our marriage and give more hope than we have ever had before.This is my second marriage and my husband's first marriage. We have been married 8 years and have experienced a miscarriage, addictions, infidelity, anger, trust issues, unforgiveness, several separations, rehab, sadness, severe finical hardship, deaths of loved ones and our own separation from GOD because of our sin.Though prayer and GOD'S WORD our lives have been changed. My husband and I have both been through Celebrate Recovery and 1 Year of Biblical Counseling that was life changing but, we still had a lot of obstacles we were working though and realized we needed more. Don't get me wrong GOD'S WORD and JESUS is enough however, he puts people in our lives and resources along the way to help as we are on this journey. After speaking with one of our Pastors he recommended "Marriage on the Mend" book and ministry.After signing up for class to my surprise there were things that resurfaced. I didn't understand why because I thought we dealt with certain things through our recovery but, the HOLY SPIRIT was showing us that we were not on the same page. One of us seen things a certain way and the other seen it very differently which stopped us from getting truly healing. We would not have realized this if he didn't use the exercises in this book "Marriage on the Mend" . We have been doing this study for 3 months and GOD has made some major changes in the both of us. Complete submission to one another that we willing want to give, putting our marriage priority above any other relationship we have, drawing closer in our walk with the LORD and more.We still have things we are working on and will continue until JESUS comes back. I am happy to say we are going to continue to apply these tools in our lives and GODS WORD recommending this book to everyone. Thank you Clint and Penny for being so transparent and obedient to GOD'S calling on your lives. Your ministry has truly changed our marriage. GOD bless you both.

Restoration Hope for the Hurting Couple By Anne Rightler Marriage on the Mend by Clint and Penny Bragg is a wonderful resource not only for couples who have separated and wish to reunite but also for couples who want to see their marriage continue to grow and thrive. With the background of having been through a divorce from each other, the authors give sound advice on how a fractured and seemingly hopeless relationship can be repaired. The Biblical account of Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the rubbled wall of Jerusalem is a parallel to the rebuilding of marriage that is woven throughout the book. A beginning premise is that 'all marital dysfunction can be traced back to the soul's deep desire for love and our misguided attempts to find it' and a recognition that this God-given desire is only satisfied in and by Him. To begin reconciliation with a separated spouse, one needs to first be reconciled to the One who designed love. Forgiveness and faith are key principles in finding satisfactory solutions to legitimate issues.There are twelve chapters dealing with fundamental concepts such as how to form a firm foundation, deepening discussions by having courageous conversations, recognizing roadblocks, rebuilding on the past and aligning your standards for basing your marriage on God's Word. One chapter is given solely to the subject of prayer, both individual and as a couple, and its essentiality to the rebuilding of the marital relationship. Another chapter encourages couples to be intentional in assessing the progress of their relationship by regularly having mini marriage retreats. The chapter provides fairly detailed how-to tips to successfully implement this suggested time away to set and assess goals, discuss feelings and deepen communication with and commitment to each other. Integrated within each chapter are QR codes that can be scanned with a smart phone to link the reader to video podcasts to further explain the concepts and tools presented. A website is also listed for access to the podcasts for those without a smart phone. There are practical reactive and proactive suggestions, such as journaling, relying on Godly mentors for support and wisdom, and using a prayer scrapbook to enable the couple know how to begin and work through the ideas and concepts presented. Each chapter ends with a prayer related to the chapter contents and suggestions and questions for further consideration. Marriage on the Mend is an excellent book filled with scripture-based suggestions to rebuild or revitalize a marriage relationship.I received a copy of this book through The Book Club Network (bookfun.org) in exchange for my honest review.
