By Getty Ambau Using largely fat as a source of energy is quite contrary to the science of nutrition and my philosophy about the proper way of nourishing the body. It’s fat that has been linked to many degenerative diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and others. Sugar is the main source of fuel for the brain. It’s the lack of glucose in the blood that causes the brain to send hunger message to the stomach. One would think that with Ketogenic diet (consuming mostly fatty foods) a person would be hungry more often and therefore eat more food than necessary. . . .The story behind the diet is certainly interesting. At the beginning of the last century a French physician was able to threat epilepsy by making the people who had the condition to fast, allowing them to drink only water at this time. During such time, the liver starts to break down the body’s own fat and use it as fuel. The substances produced during this process are called ketones. Ketones are also produced when someone eats a diet rich in fat but low in carbohydrates. The process became known as ketosis, and the diet ketogenic (ketone-generating). Now pills are used to treat epileptic seizures but Ketogenic diet found uses for those who want to lose or manage weight. The book gives good information on the diet’s background and lots of recipes for people who wish to create their own foods based on the ketogenic diet. . . . There are many ways to lose or manage weight. Ketogenic diet is one of them. What counts in the end is that you accomplish your objective no matter what science or experts say how you nourish your body or manage your weight.

Expains the benefits and gives some great recipes to get you going on a new lifestyle By Jessie J I've been needing a kick in the butt to start a diet, and this book is just what I needed. It starts off with some interesting insight into how the ketogenic diet has helped epileptics, and how it's been shown to help with other diseases. So it makes sense that if it helps eliminate (in some cases) and and improve life for these individuals, it should offer amazing benefits to an otherwise healthy person. The book includes a ton of recipes, with step by step directions.I've never even looked into this diet, but it intrigues me that eating more fat will help you lose weight. It's the good fats though. Aren't they all good?! Just kidding! But seriously, the diet seems easy enough to follow. It also has a link to enter your information so you can get your daily suggested amounts of fats, cars and protein you should intake. I've used My Fitness Pal before (which is recommended in the book as well) and it really helps track things.I'm looking forward to trying the ketogenic diet out, and some of the great recipes included in the book. A good little book that will introduce you to the benefits of Ketogenic dieting By Ivan Arnaudov Disclaimer: I was offered a free copy of the book by the author in exchange of providing an honest and unbiased review.As dieting books go, "Ketogenic Diet" by Vanessa Olsen is on the short side, but it is a good introduction to the benefits of ketogenic dieting. The long title and the cover picture may make a buyer think that this is yet another cook book, but it is actually much more than that. While the book does include various recipes, they occupy less than a half of the volume. The rest includes a brief history of ketogenic dieting, an explanation of its principles and advice on how you should prepare for success and stay on track while making a life-changing shift in your eating habits.A very good book on the topic of losing weight while eating fat is Good Calories, Bad Calories. It explains in meticulous detail why eating fat will help you lose weight. It is also 640 pages long and at times so painful to read, it feels like there’s sand in your eyes. Somehow, Vanessa Olsen has managed to compress all important points into 1/10th of that volume. Her book can be easily finished in one afternoon.When you are through reading "Ketogenic Diet", you will have achieved a basic understanding of its principles; should you wish to try this diet, the book will arm you with some simple strategies for success and tips for staying on track with the plan. You will learn about common mistakes and how to avoid them; and you will have a whole week's choice of ketogenic meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks & desserts.Is "Ketogenic Diet" a sufficient source of information if you want to try keto? Well, it depends on what you plan to do. If you know nothing about this diet or just heard about it on the radio and wanted to check what it is all about, this book will give you a good introductory understanding of the matter and will provide you with some actionable ideas. Based on the info inside, you can give the diet a try for one week and see how you will feel afterwards.However if you want to go keto for a longer period of time, I believe you should first educate yourself further (Why We Get Fat: And What to Do About It by Gary Taubes is a good starting point) and – no matter how healthy you feel – do please consult with a physician before permanently changing your diet.Bottom line: I find the "Ketogenic Diet" ebook by Vanessa Olsen informative, helpful, and easy to read. The amount of time it will save you researching keto is well worth its asking price. Why give it 4 stars then? Because a good book on an important subject such as personal health should make every effort to stay credible. "Ketogenic Diet" does not include any references, and there is no information about the author. If that was a simple cook book, it would be OK; but advocating a life change with big potential effects is another matter entirely. Based on my knowledge on the subject, I believe the book treats the topic carefully and does not contain misleading information. But I am not a medical professional or nutrition expert; a good list of references would greatly improve the credibility of "Ketogenic Diet". If Ms Olsen updates her book to include such information, it would deserve another star.
