About the Author Tim Orr is an award winning adjunct faculty member in Religious Studies at Indiana University Purdue Columbus where he has served for over 7 years. His dramatic conversion and subsequent life change has been featured on Pat Robertson's 700 Club. Tim has served as a pastor, church planter, and elder and also has a heart for building bridges with the Muslim community. His greatest joy in life, however, is being a husband to Michelle and a father to Faith.

Tim openly shares his own difficulties growing up as he struggled with physical challenges, rejection and ultimately alcoholism. At his lowest point Tim found his security in the arms of Christ, met his wonderful wife Michelle ( who had her own challenges growing up) and both dedicated their lives to the ministry. Tim relates to the reader how these earlier trials prepared both he and Michelle to serve as Church plants in the inner city, make God the centerpiece of their marriage and prepare them on how to be godly parents to their daughter Faith.There is much more for the reader to be challenged with as Tim uses Scripture, personal experiences, and insights from various influential authors to make his points . Tim has lived the quote offered by Oswald Chambers that states " God does not give us overcoming life; he gives us life as we overcome."Tim's story is one of perseverance, inspiration, and most importantly, Faith.Harold Cooper

Tim and Michelle have a discipline that is not only a model for their daughter but anyone that reads this book. I was encouraged by Tim's story and cried at times when I think about the unbelievable gift they received with Faith. God truly gives us challenges to help us grow in our faith and Tim uses personal stories and scripture to help us understand. Worth the read and will leave you wanting more.

This book is an account of two people who love God, have a deep desire to have a family and have all hopes dashed. Walking with God they realize their dream of being a complete family. Distilled essence of a genuine master's loving practical advice By Jonathan Miller The Heart Of Unconditional Love by Tulku Thondup Rinpoche, a genuine master thoroughly steeped in Dharma, great scholar and inspired teacher, is the essence distilled from his compassion and experience of living with, observing and nurturing students in the west for decades. It is the apotheosis of his loving wish for everyone to find happiness and eventually enlightenment. Fresh, incisive and encouraging, it is illustrated with a wealth of quotes that are both illuminating and authenticating. Most importantly, it is a book of very practical heart advice deeply and personally felt by the author that can increase the happiness and advance the spiritual practice of anyone who is open to the essential truth and message, and the power, of loving-kindness.

In these lovingly prepared pages, you will find a profound union of practical methodology and scholarly explanation, insight and advice on how to begin and make progress on the spiritual path of unconditional love. Tulku Thondup guides you through all the concepts of the Tibetan Buddhist , from the most basic to the most profound, and then offers detailed instruction on how to practice on the cushion and how to apply them off the cushion in all circumstances of daily life. I have never seen a book on this type of meditation theory and practice that is as thorough and as easily comprehended as this. Like unconditional love itself, this book is a wish-fullfilling jewel to all who take its teachings to heart.

Especially the way the author makes sure and clear the metaphysical underpinnings of the spirit-matter connection, how everything is one and yet particular in the web of existence that includes non-humans. There's a devout empathy with all things and spirits and I came away trusting Sureaux's recommendations and preferences developed through old knowledge, hard work and commitment. The essays are so encompassing it's easy to forget it's a short-ish, compact book. There's his generosity to Hyatt's work and Yronwode's materia magica; to opening a world to the readers; and a zeal for authenticity, experiment and findings. Then, like a kid in a candy store when they get permission to indulge, being told you need these tools, lots of jars etc, and how to store and care for everything you work with, was bliss. I got a charge from reading this book – it was like visiting a long lost relative you should have known ages ago. I don't know who Docteur Sureaux is or at least I can't find more about him other than the autobio information in the book & publisher's statement. I can guess Docteur is a folk-magician/herbalist as in "root doctor" working with materials to make spiritual changes; Sureaux is like saying "on water". I only hope he writes more than one book because he owns this territory.

By Edward Friar I suspect this is actually by a well known pagan author who usually writes by another name, and who perhaps not coincidentally, also publishes with Pendraig. But unlike his other books, (assuming I'm correct) this book gets straight to the point. Well, almost. The first section is auto-biographical, but also sets up the philosophical background of the practical parts. But the philosophy is presented without bludgeoning you in the head, and sometimes you can almost smell the gumbo cooking, and hear the snakes slithering in the swamp. The second part of the book is my favorite, giving a nuts and bolts spirit-working technology that is totally missing from most books of this sort. The third section has lots of little hoodoo tidbits, allowing you a small but powerful introduction to root working. This is a slim little volume, but I find myself going back again and again to certain parts. I hope this isn't a one-off. I'd love to read more from the author in this vein.

Published by the Institute for Orthodox Christian Studies, Cambridge, this translation into modern English is of the two major Liturgies of the Orthodox Church, that of St John Chrysostom (died 407 A.D.)which is used on most occasions when the communion is celebrated, and the fuller Liturgy attributed to St Basil the Great (died 379 A.D.), now used on 1 January, the Feast Day of the Saint, on the first five Sundays of Great Lent, and on Holy Saturday. Both liturgies express the essence of the Orthodox Christian faith, and have been in use since the early centuries of the Christian era. St Basil's Liturgy was for many centuries the most used, that of St John Chrysostom taking priority only in the early medieval period. Though both have had material added to them, recent scholarship, by comparing phrases and expressions in the liturgies with works undoubtedly by the two saints, have established that the traditional attributions are likely to be correct. These two translations into modern English were first commissioned by Archbishop Gibran (Ramlawi) for the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of Australasia, to meet a need expressed by the youth of the archdiocese for an elegant and intelligible translation of the services into a modern English that worshippers and visiting friends from varied ethnic backgrounds might find comprehensible and moving. On the publication of the St John Chrysostom Liturgy in its modern version, Philip Tovey in his review for NEWS OF LITURGY wrote: 'This English version of the Orthodox Liturgy is done by David Frost to the high standard we might expect. It is a fresh translation which brings the liturgy to life . . . Indeed, the move to good Modern English shows the Orthodox Liturgy to be something living, rather than looking like a fossil. This translation is another great help in our appreciation of the Divine Liturgy.' This collection also contains translations of the short hymns, troparia and kontakia, that are used on the Sundays and Great Feasts of the Church's year. The text is intended as the foundation English version to be used in a project of the Institute for Orthodox Christian Studies, Cambridge, to provide parallel texts of the Liturgy for use in the various ethnic Orthodox Churches in Great Britain, whereby texts authorized by each Church can be paired with a common English translation of quality that can establish itself as a version familiar to all Orthodox who are bi-lingual and which will be acceptable to those from ethnic Churches who wish to worship in the language of their adopted country.

About the Author The translations are by Professor David Frost, a former Fellow and Director of Studies in English at St John's College, Cambridge, and a University Teaching Officer in the University of Cambridge, then Professor of English Literature in the University of Newcastle, New South Wales, and now Principal of the Institute for Orthodox Christian Studies in Cambridge, England. Professor Frost, though a scholar of Renaissance literature, served on the Liturgical Commission of the Church of England throughout the period of creation of church services in modern English that led to AN ALTERNATIVE SERVICE BOOK, 1980, to which he contributed drafting and for which he wrote a number of prayers that achieved international recognition. He was also responsible for the translation into modern English (with the help of an interdenominational team of Hebrew scholars) of the Book of Psalms, which as THE (CAMBRIDGE) LITURGICAL PSALTER was bound up with AN ALTERNATIVE SERVICE BOOK 1980 and also went into some six national prayer books around the English-speaking world. The making of these versions of St John Chrysostom's and Saint Basil the Great's Liturgies, here gathered into one volume, occasioned the translator's decision to join the Orthodox Church as having an unbroken tradition back to the days of the apostles, yet also led to him creating modern translations that have been praised as bringing a fresh eye and ear to material that had been encrusted by tradition and hidden under archaic expression.

Beautifully done By mgolfanopoulos Orthodox Christians would agree with Alexander Schmemann that liturgy is: “at the very center of the Church’s life and activity. “Given that, the liturgy must be dynamic and sensitive to the spiritual needs of the faithful living in the present and in new and diverse English speaking cultures. The recently published translation of the Divine Liturgies of Saint John Chrysostom and Saint Basil the Great accomplishes that challenge.A continuation of the always excellent work pinned by the Administrator and Principal, Professor David Frost, of The Institute For Orthodox Christian Studies, Cambridge, his diligent work on this English version of those liturgies provides us with a clear, authentic, and contemporary expression of those masterpieces. Credible resources trace the evolution of the liturgy used in Eastern Orthodox churches to accomplish the goal of meeting contemporary demands and needs. The works of Alexander Schmemann (Introduction to Liturgical Theology) and Hugh Wybrew (The Development of the Eucharistic Liturgy in the Byzantine Rite) provide excellent resources tracing those developments. Now comes Professor Frost with an offering that doesn’t change the liturgies but provides us with fresh and forceful translations of those magnificent worship guides. The inspired content of our beloved Divine Liturgy remains the same but how that content is expressed using Twenty-first Century language is refreshing and meaningful.The book begins with some short introductory remarks and then Frost addresses the events and motivation for the new translations beginning some 20 years ago when young people of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia asked the late Archbishop Gibran to provide a service in modern English. If young people then were asking for new translations, how much more so are those works needed now when one almost needs to understand a parallel language in order to navigate our high tech means of communicating.The publication of this book could not have been timelier or more welcomed.

Great Size, Great Content By Don Dudley I bought this for my son for Easter to be his first "big boy" Bible at six-years-old.First thing I noticed about it was the size. It is compact without being too small. It would fit well in a book bag or duffle without being obtrusive or cumbersome. It fits really good in my adult hand and he can carry it easily in his smaller hands. The smaller size does mean a smaller font, but it is not so small that it is difficult to read. It is very clear and easy to see. I need to wear glasses for reading, but did not feel any eye strain without them while reading the font and typeface in this Bible. The maps in the back are a little bit of a different story I will address below.The TruTone cover feels nice and durable. I do not see this falling apart. I have had two other TruTone ESV Bibles which have held up very well, and I have no doubts this one will either. I can see my boy owning this Bible for many years with the cover still in tact.Now, the reason I gave it four stars. The extra features. This Bible brags about having timelines with "art" as well as a section entitled "God's Word for me When / About...." as well as kid friendly maps. I will start with the maps.The maps are pretty cool. They contain little 3-D symbols on them to outline cities and events. They look REALLY cool and modern. They truly are kid friendly and easy to use. The only problem is, in this smaller sized Bible, the maps are smaller. I found myself squinting a little more to read the legends, etc. This is kind of a nit-pick, but I would recommend maybe getting the thin line version if you have a kid with a visual impairment.The timelines are printed in black and white on the same paper the Scriptures are printed on. Kind of lame. Sure, they look OK, but when you brag about the feature, maybe you could make it full-color like the maps? They can be hard to make sense of as they are small and pretty much just line drawings (hence my quotations above around the word 'art'). I feel as though the timelines could be more beneficial if they were a little easier to read.Finally, the bonus features entitled "God's Word for me When / About...." These are really cool, topical indexes for kids with more youth-relevant topics (like, 'God's Word for me when my friends are not being good friends.'). The section is really well done and easy to navigate with bold, and different colored, text. My only wish is that it was a little more differentiated from the rest of the index. It can be a little difficult to find on the fly. Don't let that discourage you, the content of it is VERY well done.To sum this up, the bonus features are not all that well done. They are great ideas which simply need better execution. But, I would still buy this Bible again. While the features are not all that well done, they are still worth having as an asset to the owner. The price as well is pretty decent for any Bible and well worth the investment.

My 7 year old uses it but I'm still looking for a "kids'" Bible that breaks the stories down better for a child.

My 7 year old son definitely likes the sword theme and it provides the opportunity to discuss text associated text, Hebrews 4:12, with your child. It is a great way to transition your child from a children's picture Bible to a full text Bible. However the font is rather small and may be a bit difficult for adult eyes to read. Overall, I am very pleased with this Bible.

I'm finding it REALLY good and I'm sure I'll need to go through it more than once to absorb the whole message. The author is so expressive in the way he phrases things. I would recommend it to everyone who considers him/herself any kind of a Christian, and even to those who may not. Among other things, Adamson makes a big point of the difference of knowing ABOUT Jesus and truly knowing Jesus. He says that many people who attend church on a regular basis fall into the first category and maybe have read the Bible through and through and listened to many sermons, some of which may have been delivered by preachers who only know about Him. He tell us to slow down and really seek to KNOW our Lord and Savior. He keeps returning to the title saying that the bush is ALWAYS burning and that wherever we might be at any time, we are always standing on holy ground. He gives many examples and illustrations. Once again, I say excellent!

A book that can potentially change lives and reignite passion in our walk with God as it points us to turn and notice that the bush is always burning- the miraculous is all around us.
