From the Back Cover "Peter Williamson has written a balanced, clear, informative, and insightful commentary on Revelation that is both Catholic and catholic. Attentive to the first-century context, the history of interpretation, and Christian liturgy and life, it offers us--like Revelation itself--guidance for the spiritual struggle between the first and second comings of the Lord."--Michael J. Gorman, Raymond E. Brown Professor of Biblical Studies and Theology, St. Mary's Seminary and University, Baltimore"Dr. Williamson, drawing on the best scholarship, has done an excellent job making sense out of a book that is notoriously difficult to interpret. Academically sound, pastorally useful, spiritually inspiring. Highly recommended."--Ralph Martin, STD, director of Graduate Theology Programs in the New Evangelization, Sacred Heart Major Seminary, Archdiocese of Detroit"Peter Williamson's commentary on the book of Revelation is well balanced and judicious on issues of the book's authorship, date, composition, and structure, thus aiding readers in making well-informed decisions that draw on Williamson's familiarity with modern scholarship and the patristic discussions of Revelation. His explanations of the various images throughout Revelation, set within a clear, sensible presentation of the structure of the whole book, allow the pieces of the puzzle of this book to fall into place and enable the reader to better understand its first-century background and its vision of the final victory of God and his Church over Satan and his kingdom. Throughout the book, the author draws out the ongoing significance of Revelation for the life of the Church in every era between the time of its writing and its ultimate fulfillment. I highly commend this commentary."--Fr. Mitchell C. Pacwa, SJ, senior fellow, St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, Steubenville, OhioFor more information on the series, visit www.CatholicScriptureCommentary.com

Gladieux Amillennial commentary: ExcellentUnderstandable, which is vital for commenting on this book of scripture. Explains his methodology (such as recapitulation) as he goes along, showing its application to the passages/visions of Revelation. Develops the end-times themes of Revelation in a clear and understandable way while maintaining their connection to history and to previous generations. Makes numerous connections to the words of Jesus, the epistles, and Old Testament passages to deepen the meaning and place the book in its broader scriptural context. Has helpful cross references to the lectionary and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Has many helpful sidebars that explain important concepts and elucidate various historical and current issues related to interpreting Revelation. Focuses on recurring phrases and themes that underlie Revelation and that sharpen its meaning. Ties his commentary into ideas from earlier fathers and doctors of the church. Connects the understanding of Revelation to church doctrine and practices throughout the ages. Not only theological, but has practical applications to our lives; that is, throughout the book there are practical and inspiring applications to our present life situation and strong calls to renounce worldliness and carnality and to surrender more deeply to God. As we near the end of the commentary there are an excellent observations on the world in which we must live today based on the divine perspective that Revelation gives to us, and an inspiring meditation on the glories that await us before the throne of God in heaven—rather, in the new heaven and the new earth that ultimately awaits us.Reviewed by: Michael J. Gladieux, author of the premillennial Revelation commentaryConsummation: A Theology of the End-Times

But if you do not read the introduction to this book, then a lot of "pre-set ideas" used by Dr. Williamson will be missed. Plus Dr. Williamson's reasoning to base some statements in the book. For example, "This commentary will presuppose the majority view that Revelation was written in the 90s, but will occasionally consider the possible implications of an earlier date for interpreting the book," Another example: "There is no doubt what the author says about himself - namely that he is a Christian prophet and his name is John." It seems that Dr Williamson lets "Revelation speak about Revelation. So enjoy this book but be patient and when a question arises, write it down , the answer may be on the next page of the book. A good book for any Christian trying to "understand" the book of Revelation, but especially for those who are Roman Catholic or want more than a :literalistic, it's happening now approach to the Book of Revelation.
