Review Author Karl Bacon has given readers a beautifully written, beautifully edited novel that richly describes the land and the mindset of southerners during the Civil War. He paints a realistic picture of life on a farm in the 1860s and the enormous amount of labor it takes for it to be fruitful, which will really appeal to fans of historical fiction. About the Author
Karl’s first book, An Eye for Glory: The Civil War Chronicles of a Citizen Soldier (Zondervan, 2011), received a number of accolades including PW’s “Top Inspirational Fiction Pick,” a Christy Award Finalist designation, and 4.7 out of five stars on Amazon. Karl grew up in the picturesque town of Woodbury, Connecticut. From youth Karl has been a serious student of the Civil War. His first book took ten years from conception to completion. Thousands of hours were spent researching every detail through copious reading, Internet research and personal visits to each battlefield. He was committed to making the novel as historically accurate and believable as possible. Karl lives in Naugatuck, Connecticut with his wife of thirty-three years, Jackie.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Life is mighty dull without Bacon. Especially Karl Bacon when he writes this well. By Joseph Courtemanche Karl Bacon is going to get me in trouble. I read his book in just a few days and it was a great temptation to just turn off my computer and phone at work and read his marvelous novel instead.It's not just a story of the Civil War (or, the War of Northern Aggression from the viewpoint of most of the characters) but it's a study in character and changes that God can bring about in our hearts if we open them.Well plotted, gracefully written, and completely engaging. I loved all of it except the end - it came far too quickly.Thank you, Karl, for a great book. I look forward to the next in the series.
