Nik is an eccentric art student obsessed with painting his dancer girlfriend, Jennifer. When one day she inexplicably disappears, Nik’s world is shattered. Determined to find her, he embarks on a cross-country journey following a scant trail of clues. He doesn’t anticipate how far he’ll have to travel, what he’ll do when he runs out of money, or the fact that an intimidating stranger is looking for Jennifer, too.Nik and Jennifer fade into the background of their own tale, surfacing now and again like ghosts as the rest of their mysterious story unfolds through a series of chance encounters with intricately linked strangers. An English professor coping with a dying mother, a rebellious teenage girl, a debt-ridden civil servant, a disillusioned ex-anarchist documentary filmmaker, and other disparate characters who encounter the separate couple as they circle one another in a tentative dance.Circle of Stones reveals as much about the grief and the grinding frustrations of contemporary life as it does about the pursuit of love at all costs.

Review Andrew delivers her tale through the voices and private dramas of her supporting cast. (Quill & Quire)Circle of Stones is a promising debut containing familiar settings, a damaged cast, and tight, realistic dialogue. The larger theme surrounding the pursuit of love at all costs works as a satisfying plot device that helps tie the narrative together. Circle of Stones is a quick, appealing read that, in the end, leaves us to ponder the pursuit of our own happiness. (Georgia Straight)
Review "Suzanne Alyssa Andrew's writing is not only clear and spare, but she expertly reveals her characters with memorable, telling detail. It is impossible not to care about the novel's protagonists, making it a terrific read." (Anar Ali author of Baby Khaki’s Wings)"Suzanne Alyssa Andrew is a talented writer who creates fresh fiction with acuity and sharp wit. She has a keen sense of detail and timing, and knows well how to draw a reader into characters' worlds and concerns ― with a balance of sensitivity and irreverence that makes for a crackling good read." (Ania Szado author of Beginning of Was)"Suzanne Alyssa Andrew's writing is sinuous, polished and deceptively simple, drawing you closer to her characters, their fears and longings, and all the mysteries they are trying to penetrate. Circle of Stones is a dragonfly's view on a complex story of love, loss, and art, in ten chapters. I enjoyed the shifting point of view because it makes the reading experience both exciting and challenging ― as a reader, I was also a fully engaged participant in the novel, finding connections, and empathy, with and for the characters." (Rebecca Rosenblum author of Once and The Big Dream)Suzanne Alyssa Andrew’s Circle of Stones reveals the secret lives of the almost-invisible strangers we encounter every day ― the timid elderly woman next door, the sullen street kid, the stone-faced government worker ― and traces the hidden connections among them. In this enthralling, character-driven novel, nobody is quite as they seem, and routine interactions have surprising layers of meaning. Andrew brings a sweet vulnerability to her unwittingly entwined protagonists, and sets a compelling mystery at the heart of it all. (Jessica Westhead, author of And Also Sharks and Pulpy & Midge)

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I really enjoyed this book By Farzana Doctor I really enjoyed this book. The novel is structured much like a set of interlinked short stories that drive forward the main suspenseful plot. Part mystery (a young woman disappears), part angsty love story (her lover almost loses himself in his search for her) and something else I found compelling: each of the "minor characters" who tell the lovers' story also have their own complex struggles and desires that I found delightful (there is a woman who is an Extreme Ironer, for example) and tender (a middle-aged man must deal with his shopping addiction and the death of his relationship, an elderly woman comes to terms with ageing and her hopes for new love).
