How does revenge lead to saving a life? And what is the perfect response to an almost perfect crime? After a sad breakup all Ryan wants is to be alone to clear his mind. It's a small world in Mexico for a Canadian tourist, and it gets even smaller when Ryan meets a man who is practically a neighbour. How unfortunate that a spot of youthful mischief keeps them from becoming good friends! But two people so well matched in wits can make even better enemies, and the dazzle of Mexico's colours and sunshine is an ideal stage for the pageant of death.

About the Author Born on the wrong side of the iron curtain, I lived in that world long enough to treasure the freedom I found in England and later in Canada where I settled. A former conference interpreter and philosophy professor, I now earn my bread as a veterinarian and thank fortune for living at a time when the likes of me are no longer burned as witches. Valerie Albemarle is my pen name. I welcome letters at gassendus@hotmail.com

By Charles I'm probably not the best person to write a review for a book like this. The narrative is full of lengthy descriptions, and females seem to enjoy that more than their male counterparts. (I couldn't care less what a character had for breakfast or what trees and flowers he saw on his trip through town.) That said, the story was enjoyable, but I did skim through all the descriptive paragraphs, especially in the first 1/4 of the book. The story gets much better when the protagonist arrives at his destination (Mexico). From there on out is where the real story begins, and I think you'll like it.
