2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Help for those seeking light in our culture. By LH This book is for those who sometimes find it hard to see light in a culture that fosters darkness. When we are constantly made aware of the worst of human behavior and wonder where God can be found, Fr. Barron discloses the best of the human spirit in many things we may overlook. What Fr. Barron so forcefully reveals is how looking at something or someone from the perspective of what God would have us see, illuminates the good and brings light to the human experience. The book contains many examples of finding God in the midst of our world. Those who read "Seeds of the Word" will find clear, concise examples that will resonate with them, helping them to find light in the circumstances of their lives.

While many similar writings appear in his online site there is plenty of new material an d insight in Seeds of the Word. If you want to know your own catholic faith a little better or understand it from a distance you could find no more interesting or digestible introduction

Dr. Kvedar has been working in this space for the last 20+ years, and his book reflects that breadth of knowledge and wealth of experience. Whether a patient or caregiver seeking to learn more about digital health and the role of the Internet and technology in healthcare, a clinician seeking to understand the evolving landscape, or an entrepreneur hoping to identify opportunities and avoid risk - this book offers valuable lessons for everyone. Dr. Kvedar takes the reader from the earliest days of telehealth through the connected health of today and shows where the field is rapidly headed tomorrow. The journey is full of great examples from his work at Partner's Healthcare, his personal connections with leaders in the field, and his understanding of the complex world of healthcare policy, reimbursement, and regulation. Oram Dr. Kvedar, famed head of the Connected Health Center at Partners, waited 20 years before presenting the deep insights they have developed into improving health care. I was particularly impressed at the practical, realistic focus on the book: it's not just a utopian view of a possible future, but a description of experiments and initiatives that are currently working, along with clear-sighted views on the barriers and challenges we face. The book is organized to be useful to entrepreneurs and managers of clinical institutions, ending each chapter with a list of insights. It also shows that numerous institutions that haven't previously thought of themselves as health care providers can make significant contributions.

We can remind ourselves to take our meds with apps. We can video conference with our dermatologist. But is all this technology making better doctors and healthier patients? This is what Dr. Joe Kvedar examines in this insightful book.He shares numerous examples from his vast experience as a physician and pioneer in digital healthcare with Partners Connected Health in Boston. He delves equally deeply into the business of healthcare as he does into the behavioral habits of patients.As someone who effectively straddles the threshold between physician-centered (think Marcus Welby) and “consumer-centric” healthcare, Kvedar has spent his career leveraging technology, from smartphones to remote health monitoring tools, to improve care delivery.Not surprisingly, most of the examples Kvedar sites of effective “connected health” are from research conducted at Partners Connected Health. I will admit I got it when it was offered to me when there was a two day sale and it was free. The man that told me about it said I may like it and asked if I would write an honest review once had I read it. He may wish he had not asked now.The book is not good. It really is nothing more than old, and I mean OLD, ghost stories that have turned into urban legends that teens tell one another at slumber parties. I found myself bored after just a few pages and in no time I was wishing I had never heard of the book. The stories are short and that is about the only good thing I can say about it. Well, I guess one other good thing is the book is not very long in its entirety but it does seem to drag on after a very short time.If you are bored and have nothing else to do, not even cleaning the oven to fill the minutes between your microwave dinner cooking all the way through and the next re-run of Gilligan's Island starting, then maybe you will like this book as a time filler. Even then you may begin to read it and start thinking, "Don't I have something better to do? Isn't there a root canal I could be getting done right now instead? Please, God!"If you are going to writer a book about ghost stories, then do it with some new stories and not ones that have been told countless times on the History Channel at Halloween. Must be easy to write a book you don't have to do any real research on, other then turning on the TV.

By Carolyn Evans This is more folklore than real ghost story. it retells the standard Bell Witch story, including the legend of Jackson's visit. Then there is the issue of location in one chapter, as the Stanley Hotel is in Colorado, not Mississippi as the writer implies. The murder in Villesca is the focus of one chapter, but the ghost stories connected are missing.

Vajko Too often books on church planting mix the methodology of church planting with some biblical texts. But this book on church planting involves, as its title states, “Church Planting by the Book.” The author relates how the planting of nine churches in Acts can effectively inform the church planter in his ministry. However, he does not say that all of Paul’s church planting ministry is prescriptive and must be done a certain way. Instead, he deals with elements drawn from the various church planting narratives and states: “The fact that Paul had a custom but did not follow it in every situation is significant. It is helpful for church planters today to have a plan in mind—to have a vision for how churches being started in a region or around the world—but at the same time, it is necessary to remember that the book of Acts does not include one model for church planting” (116). One size does not fit all but as one looks at the different church plants certain principles begin to crystallize.After an introductory chapter where the author explains what he calls “common threads and unique insights (12-13) he walks you through each of the churches planted during the three missionary trips of Paul starting with the church in Jerusalem and ending with the church in Ephesus.What is extremely helpful in this book are the principles and insights that the author draws out from each of Paul’s church planting experiences. For example, he states that the church in Jerusalem teaches us the importance of “The broad sowing of the Word of God in people’s lives is good preparation for evangelism” (25).Another key principle is “the level of discipleship must match the level of evangelism” (58). Too often church planters major on starting a church and above all a worship service but do not do a good job of discipling new believers.One principle that I learned from this book is “In the New Testament money flows away from the new churches, not toward them” (60). This goes against the idea that funds must flow to new churches from older churches rather than the reverse as stated here. This is something all church planters need to think through.The epilogue (159-162) gives the common threads as a conclusion.This reviewer would encourage church planters to use this book as a constant check on the ministry of church planting so that it is, as the author states, “by the Book.”

Many Christians today think Adam can be relegated to mythology or symbolism without compromising too much of the Christian faith.These authors disagree. They hold that Adam was a historical being and that his existence is necessary to our faith and witness. What one believes about Adam's existence makes a difference to how we understand God, mankind, the person and ministry of Jesus, the Bible, and the gospel. It is essential, they argue, to defend the Bible's teaching on creation and Adam.Derek Thomas writes on the essence of Genesis 1 in one essay and the views on the days of creation in another. Joel R. Beeke argues for a real, historical Adam, using the Bible alone. He also has an essay on Jesus as the second Adam. Kevin DeYoung explores whether man is here by chance or by design. Liam Goligher shares the spiritual ramifications of the first chapters of Genesis. Richard D. Phillips reveals the kind of theology we end up with if we incorporate evolution into it. He also writes on gender and marriage. His third essay is on what was lost in the Fall and when it will be regained. Carl R. Trueman writes on original sin and how the doctrine has been changed by modern theologians.As is often the case with a variety of authors, the quality of the essays differ and there is some repetition. As a lay person, there were a few of the studies I greatly appreciated. Beeke pointed out the problems of rendering the Bible through the lens of science as well the importance of defending the historicity of Adam. “The denial of the historical Adam brings with it a host of ideas contrary to the Christian view of creation, human nature, human relationships, and the fall of man.”I really appreciated Phillips' remarks on evolution. “The attempt to show that the Bible, when properly interpreted, makes allowance for evolution simply does not work.” He is very clear about what is lost when a Christian embraces evolution. “Evolution cannot be grafted into the structure of biblical Christianity, but replaces it with a different structure, a different ethic, a different story of salvation, and a different religion altogether.” I also appreciated Phillips' study on gender and marriage. He notes, “...it is vital for Christians to know the difference between biblically prudent accommodations to culture and issues on which we cannot faithfully compromise.”This is not a definitive work by any means. It is a good introduction, however, to the historic Reformed view of the first few chapters of Genesis. It is also a good reminder of what we loose in doctrine and practical theology when we begin to compromise on the historical nature of that Scripture.I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

I expected it would be more focused on Adam as a historical figure. The book seemed to me like it went all over the place. One chapter goes into how Genesis 1&2 establishes and defines marriage being between one man and one woman, and the next chapter goes into how long the days were in Genesis 1. If you are looking for a book that covers a variety of issues on Creation from various authors, then you may enjoy this book. If you are looking for something that is more specifically addressing whether or not Adam was a historical man, then you may be dissapointed.

Typically the people who question Adam and Eve also question whether the Bible is authoritative, inerrant and sufficient. Most of these people are scientists with no Bible or theological training and traditionally come to the Bible not to learn from its teachings but rather to impose their scientific findings upon the Bible. In 2013 there was a conference held by the Philadelphia Conference on Reformed Theology under the title “God, Adam, and You” out of which comes the book God, Adam, and You Biblical Creation Defended and Applied.The whole book explores one question, “What difference does Adam make?” The book takes a serious look at Genesis 1-3 with a view to defend the literal interpretation of the first three chapters of Genesis. Some people have abandoned Adam as a historical person who lived and died in real history. As the authors open the biblical text they help us understand not only how to respond to attacks on the first three chapters in the Bible but also what they mean. In chapter one Dr. Thomas looks at the Bible’s first word. Chapter two by Dr. Joel Beeke considers the case for Adam. Kevin DeYoung looks at two views of the human person in chapter three. Chapter four by Liam Goligher looks at Adam’s role in the Garden. Richard Phillips looks at the Bible and evolution. In chapter six Mr. Phillips also considers God’s design for Gender, Marriage, and Sex. Dr. Thomas in chapter seven considers differing views on the days of creation. Chapter eight is where Dr. Beeke considers Christ, the Second Adam. Chapter nine looks at God’s Garden to God’s city by Richard Phillips. Carl Trueman in the final chapter looks at original sin and modern theology.The issue of whether Adam and Eve are historical persons is a vital issue because it has bearing on the believer’s biblical and theological understanding of God, the Bible, creation, marriage, sin, and salvation. The consequence of Adam and Eve not being historical persons is that the creation record in Genesis is undermined, the institution of marriage (which God established) defamed, and the reason Jesus came to die for sin torn from the biblical record. Those who advocate for the view that Adam and Eve are not historical persons minimize God’s Word which teaches that Adam and Eve were real people in real history. The issue of Adam and Eve is important, not only because ideas have consequences, but because the foundation upon which the scientists built their argument. A believer who believes in a biblical worldview understands that Adam and Eve are historical persons.Ideas have consequences, and those consequences are evidenced in how one understands Genesis 1-3. A literal interpretation of Genesis 1-3 will help the believer to have a proper understanding of God, His Word, and the person and work of Jesus Christ. If one takes Genesis 1-3 any way other than literally, then it will result in a faulty understanding of the Bible and in asking the wrong questions, such as scientists are asking about whether Adam and Eve are real persons. Understanding Adam and Eve as historical persons is important because Paul explains in Romans 5:12-21 that Adam and Eve were, in fact, real persons.God, Adam, and You is an excellent book that will help readers to understand the literal interpretation of Genesis 1-3 and how to respond to attacks on the Bible. In seminary, I wrote a research paper on the subject of the historicity of Adam and wish I had this book during my research and writing of that paper. This book would be helpful for pastors, Sunday school teachers, and Bible study leaders to use in their studies on Genesis, and Romans, among a whole host of other topics. I highly recommend this book and believe that as you read it you’ll learn the difference the historical Adam makes for us today, as followers of the second Adam, Jesus Christ.

It covers how to break your fundraising project into small, manageable steps, how to write the text of your campaign, how to make your campaign visually appealing, tools and platforms to use to raise money, how to start/continue/re-start the momentum of your project, and so much more. I immediately told my childhood friend about this book because she is trying to raise money to cover medical expenses for a special needs family member.

The advice in this e-book is practical and down-to-earth, very reader-friendly. I had already written the text for my current campaign, but after reading Crowdfunding Confidential: Raise Money For You & Your Cause, I saw what needed editing out and what needed more emphasis to improve my chances for success. Most importantly, this book gave me the confidence - after a very unsuccessful campaign I tried previously - to try again. I cannot thank the author enough for this very essential guide!

I have been doing the same annual walk for the past 6 years, raising donations along the way. I raised more money this year than I ever have in years past using the tools outlined by Kristen Palana in this easy-to-follow guide! She uses a conversational tone in her writing which makes this seemingly daunting subject a lot less overwhelming. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to raise money for a cause that is close to your heart!
