I'm not very well versed in spiritual warfare and I felt like this book gave me a great background and place to jump in right away. It is very equipping with many example prayers that you can adapt to your own situation. He gives good explanations on why these areas should be prayed over, he covers a broad range of topics, and he gives interesting anecdotes to illustrate his point. I appreciate his clear writing style (very easy to understand and follow) as well his transparency in life (this makes it all very relatable as he seems like a "normal" person with issues we all deal with). I use the example prayers so much that I had to order this in paperback too so that I could easily flip to these. I can definitely feel the authority and power of God on me as I pray these! As someone who sees into the spiritual realm regularly, this author's insights in spiritual warfare are a must-read!To quote the author "If you do this type of covering [prayer] every day, you will see results. These prayers have their basis in the Scriptures and as such they are legal rights that I am claiming over my family. Do this for a month and you will have a different atmosphere in your home. Provide protection to the degree that you have been given the power and the authority to do so. Your family will have an increase in the peace that passes understanding." I am so excited to try this!

Rather than getting bogged down in pedantic theological discourse, the author gives a lot of practical "how to" tips for immediate application. A great resource. Can be utilized alone in or in a small group study setting.

A Must Read for all Korean-American Christians By Jin Chung As one who has grown up in the Korean-American church, I have always been curious about the foundings of Christianity in Korea. This is an excellent, first-hand account of the work of the first Korean missionaries during the early 1900s. It also contains incredible descriptions of the sufferings endured during the Japanese occupation and the subsequent Korean War. I found it to be quite inspirational.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Moving Title By Jimmy R. Reagan Here is a volume coming back into print where I had heard rumors of its being outstanding. By missionaries William Blair and Bruce Hunt, this book covers the first 60 years of the Gospel coming into Korea. The title “The Korean Pentecost And The Sufferings Which Followed” gives a hint of what you will discover here. It is hard to comprehend so much happening in 60 years and that the ministries of two missionaries went through it all. What the reader gets through it all is a strengthening of faith, the amazement of seeing God’s hand at work, and the inspiration of others serving our Lord through tribulation and even death.The authors well tell a story of the preparation for the Gospel in Korea before Mr. Blair arrived. The story of the seed sown by Robert Thomas in 1865 in chapter 3 is one you will never forget once you read it. It moved me in a way nothing has in a long time.Then the work is described until in 1907 the Lord graciously sent revival. It is so compelling to read of real revival, what it looks like, and what transpired. Negatives as are present in any revival were not hidden, but they were few. As you read you will catch yourself praying: “Lord, send such a revival today.”The second half of the book tells of the sufferings that came next over several decades, first at the hands of the Japanese, then from the Communists. Amazingly, the work of the Lord continued to grow though sufferings reached horrific levels. The book was never about gratuitous violence, but just enough to explain what happened. What says more in the reader’s mind is the calm, pure dedication to Christ of those who suffered. When we have no idea of what we may face, it is good to read of what can be true in Christ in the worst of times.The authors were humble and made the stories about the Korean Christians, yet I believe I discovered two more Christian heroes in them. This is the kind of story that needs to be in every home. More than merely biography or history, it is a gripping portrait of what Christianity should be.I received this book free from the publisher. Great Book By alice osiecki The opening line of The New Chinese Medicine Handbook states 'If you have picked up this book, you are searching for answers....' IndeedI had little understanding of Chinese Medicine when I reached for this book. I had recently been diagnosed with a fatal illness and was scared, overwhelmed, hopeless and at a loss as to where to begin. Working with Misha Cohen guiding me through the chapters, I gradually moved from hopeless to hopeful, dis-ease to ease, and simply living my life to embracing it with strength and happiness.Conceptually the book is like creation of a new recipe - beginning with the inspiration, gathering ingredients and then layer by layer creating a unique life sustaining, emotionally nourishing and delicious stew that is always on hand.Part One of the book clarifies the context and complexity of illness from the Chinese med mind/body/spirit prospective. The information is presented clearly enough for the uninformed lay person and thorough enough to provide information to eastern and western medical professionals.Part Two addresses practical steps that can be taken, from how to choose a Chinese medicine doctor and what you can expect from them, nutritional supplements, to diet, movement and meditation recommendations. These chapters include recipes, massage techniques, how to begin a meditation practice. By Amazon Customer If you are looking for a book that is a thorough culmination of 40 years of wisdom in patient education in the realm of Chinese medicine, this is the book to have. In simple and clear narrative, all the terms that a practitioner would use to inform their patients are addressed here. Everything from basic TCM theoretical concepts, to complete self-care programs to an expanded appendix can be found. The addition of the Western overview of conditions is welcome as it helps to explain the varying conditions as well as expanding on the layout of self care programs. One can tell the amount of work that Misha has put into this book and her genuine compassion through her generosity to share with all of us.

Has some great general information if you're new to taking supplements, will help save you a ton of money in the wrong run so you're not just peeing your money down the drain. Check out Martijn's other books as well he's great at taking information and explaining in a way everyone can understand.

Walker This book is great, but it leaves you praying for so much more!If you haven't read his fictional books The Facade and The Portent, I'd strongly recommend that as well. While they are fiction, they could almost be used as reference works as well.I discovered Dr. Heiser's work about a year ago and since then I think I can honestly say that I've watched every single one of his YouTube/Vimeo videos as well as reading a great deal of what he has written.On his homepage, drmsh.com, there's a link to his resume/CV. This document lists pretty much everything he's ever written, where to find it, and whether it was written for the laity or the scholar.In early 2015 Dr. Heiser will have two new non-fiction books coming out--the answer to the prayer in the first line of this review! Until then, I strongly recommend you find these CD/DVD sets while you're waiting for the new books to come out. To find these resources, simply copy and paste the title into Google and the 1st result should be where you want to go. Also, the purchase of these products goes to support a valuable ministry.1.) About the Author Dr. Irving Finkel is Assistant Keeper of ancient Mesopotamian script, languages, and cultures at the British Museum. By Jim Palmer Reading "The Ark Before Noah" makes you feel like you're in a comfortable armchair in a book-lined study. There's a brandy snifter in your hand, and you're listening to one of the most charming raconteurs you can imagine. He's spinning a yarn so compellingly and amusingly that, almost against your will, you're becoming interested in a topic about which you'd never before cared. The vast majority of humankind has no clue what cuneiform writing is. But the man in the comfy chair opposite yours, Dr. Irving Finkel, Assistant Keeper of Ancient Mesopotamian Scripts at the British Museum, would like to change that.Ostensibly, this book is about a millennia-old slab of clay with some wedge-shaped writing on it and what it reveals: a Primordial Flood story unlike any other. As Finkel informs us, there are plenty of other Babylonian cuneiform tablets in the British Museum and elsewhere with bits and pieces of Flood narratives (twelve, if memory serves). But this one was unique. Not only does it give precise instructions and dimensions for building a giant round boat (surprising enough in and of itself), it also contained the phrase "the animals entered the ark two by two"--a phrasing not found in any other Babylonian Flood narratives, but one which DOES occur in the Hebrew Bible.Now, were this book only about this tablet, it would be fascinating enough. But "The Ark Before Noah" is much more than that. "The Ark Before Noah" is a love story, an account of the lifelong romance between Dr. Finkel and cuneiform writing.Not only is it the oldest form of human writing known of, it's also, as Dr. Finkel informs us, far and away the most fun--a cryptographical challenge for the nimblest of brains. Woven through the story of the Ark Tablet is a chatty, witty, humane, and at times very funny memoir of a life spent deciphering these baffling indentations in once-wet mud. It's also a marvelous introductory history to the discipline of Assyriology itself.But it goes beyond that. And why would its anonymous writers or compilers, forcibly exiled in Babylon, have included stories cribbed from their pagan oppressors in their own holy book?Dr. Finkel has pulled off a rare feat: a lucidly scholarly, readable, personal, and personable book about a subject which, in the hands of the wrong writer, would be as boring as watching paint dry--but which, in his telling, becomes mesmerizing.

36 of 38 people found the following review helpful. a Flood of Fantastic Information By Dr. Barton This may be the best book on the origins of the ancient middle eastern Flood myth that you will ever read. This is not to say that someone may not, one day, supplant it with a more comprehensive and detailed work but I doubt that it will be as readable. For a book that frequently dips into personal accounts, it is startlingly full of information. I also have to agree with Dr. Finkel that his little tablet combined with his own wide-ranging knowledge of the other Flood texts really starts to fill in the gaps in how the story evolved. Best of all, Dr. Finkel provides an interlinear translation of the text of his Flood tablet. In my experience, translations of ancient texts without easy reference to the original language are often pretty but next to useless. Being able to review the original language and his notes on it enabled me to uncover more about the text than Dr. Finkel presented including a little bit about mesopotamian food fermentation.Some reviewers found it a little dry and I have to agree that, to my tastes, he went a little too deep into coracle construction details. Overall, however, it is quite readable and entertaining. Other reviewers have objected that it doesn't cover much new territory. It doesn't. His Flood tablet is tiny and covers only a small part of the myth but the power of the book is how Dr. Finkel used that small bit of extra information to really tie the other Flood myths together. After you have read this book, you will have a much better idea of how the myth evolved. Strangely, he has an appendix on some aspects of ancient middle eastern ghosts. Believe it or not, it really does tie into the rest of the book.

Circling the square By Mark Geller This very original treatment of an ancient widely attested motif of the Flood is based upon fresh evidence preserved on a recently deciphered cuneiform tablet, which stipulates that the Ark was originally round, like ancient boats commonly used in Iraq until modern times. This form of the Ark is also known from orally transmitted Noah stories collected by anthropological field work in Eastern Europe, and this book argues for the circular shape as reflecting the oldest versions of the story. The controversial and exciting aspect of this book is the way it pursues the question of how a quintessentially Mesopotamian story came into Genesis, and the book proposes that the Judean exile was the decisive experience which determined how the Bible was composed and finally redacted, with considerable Babylonian influence in its narrative. This book offers new thinking based upon new data, which is not often the case with biblical studies.

Kassel earned degrees in Psychology and in Communications and a black belt in Karate, and is a ring-tested kick boxer.
