2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The Strength You Need By Patrick I downloaded this book several weeks ago and have been very happy with it. The steps toward better fitness are laid out clearly and explained fully by the author. Chris Dietz includes not only exercise routines, but dietary guidelines, advice with weight loss, keys to making the changes, testimonies from fellow athletes who describe the challenges that they've overcome to reach better fitness, and overall wellness.As opposed to some writers who discovered physical fitness later in life, the author speaks from several decades of authority having played football in high school and then weathered the changes that life brings upon us when: there's no coach to tell us what to do, we hit our 20's 30's 40's then 50's and have to deal with the inevitable physical changes, and we have to fit in workouts in between family and job and children. When we were in college and high school it was relatively easy to eat garbage and then hit the gym every once in a while and still stay in shape. By the time we hit 50, the ground rules have changed for us and we need to make more of an effort to keep that level of fitness. This book is written by and for those of us who strive every day not just to avoid the soft comfort of middle age waist line spread but rather to seek a higher level of strength than we've ever had.The author also has an active Strength at 50 Facebook page which he checks several times daily where he is available to answer questions from readers as well as posting demonstration videos for proper form. The Facebook page is one of the best parts of the program as you feel not just an obligation to yourself to work hard but also the drive to proudly state to the rest of the group at the end of the day that you faced that workout and crushed it.I've been doing the program for a short time already and can feel the changes: better workouts resulting in better sleep, enthusiasm for the next workout as opposed to foreboding, healthier eating, a community feeling with the other athletes on the Facebook page as we challenge ourselves each day to keep up the hard work, and clothes from the back of the closet that are finally beginning to fit again.

Rees Strength at 50 is an encouraging book full of great information and experience that's helping me get back in shape after many years. Chris writes in a very non-threatening way. There is no shame or "get your butt in gear" attitude. Just encouragement, which is what I need!

This is furthered by real life stories of those who have succeeded. Success is the act of achieving a goal. Many fail as they do not have the inspiration that it takes to succeed. Christopher goes beyond the normal instructional type of publication to a point that inspires you to continue. Weight loss is more emotional than physical. This book will provide you with insight on both. Good luck with your journey! You will feel better and your life will improve. Try it!
