About the Author Rev. Mahon is the founding director of Grace Community International. He has spoken on the disciplines of prayer and the personal devotional life in over 27 countries. He has an education degree from the University of Texas and a Master's Degree from Moody Bible Graduate School. He has served as a college director for the Navigators as well as on their National Mission Team. He has, in addition, served in several pastoral positions. He is currently the visiting Professor of Pastoral Theology at the Reformed Seminary in St. Petersburg, Russia. He ministers extensively with Reformed Baptist, Reformed Presbyterian, The Navigators, and Campus Crusade for Christ, as well as a number of other conservative evangelical churches, graduate schools, and organizations. As of this printing, he has been married 39 years and has four children and nine grandchildren. All of his children have strong Christian testimonies, are active in local churches, and were brought up having a daily quiet time alone with God.

A Firm Foundation in Prayer and Quiet Time By Alex Steinberg In June this year I began working through this workbook after receiving it at a Marriage Seminar in Johannesburg, South Africa, delivered by Rev. John S. Mahon. Two weeks into it, I submitted my first review, promising to update it once I was finished. I am now finished, and here are my thoughts.As an analytical person, I have always struggled with prayer. Since God is sovereign, He will do what He will do anyway, so why pray? However if He truly acts on my prayers, what kind of sovereign God is He, because my prayers are often less than noble. As a result I didn't pray. Until now, that is.I set out working through this book with the intention to:1. Learn about prayer from the Scriptures, and2. Develop a sustainable habit of effective prayer.To the first point, the workbook is a "Tour de Force" through the Scriptures in the area of prayer. While working through it, God weeded out MANY misconceptions that I had about prayer, and sowed a seed of LOVE for prayer. To the second point, because I have spent the last three months going through the book every day (almost), and that the last exercise of the book was to develop my own prayer notebook/journal (pictured here), I now have both the habit and the tools for a new lifestyle of effective prayer, from which I'm already reaping huge rewards.If any of these points below resonate with you, you should buy and work through this book:1. Your prayer life lags behind your other spiritual disciplines, and you're unhappy about this status quo.2. You have a strong prayer life, but you're not convinced that it is as bathed in Scripture as it should be.3. You're a new Christian and you would like to be discipled in the area of Biblical prayer & quiet time.4.
