By Dylan O'Brien In his book on Lacan's Transference Seminar, Fink's back at it again, with a hard-hitting series of micropunches sent straight to the brain (and mucous membranes). It's a romp for sure, and it covers a lot of ground. Fink summarizes Lacan's basic positions on many different kinds of love, from sexual to romantic to familial (and others, too).I'd suspect that many of the people reading this book have at least a slight interest in its potential as a self-help text. This is the first Fink book I've come across that takes this potential quite seriously, and has given it quite a few therapeutic touches, some of which are perhaps a little "too" personal, and will have many of his readers glossing over them to avoid the psychic disruption they would cause were they internalized.As always occurs in his writings, Fink adds a little of his own opinion on things, which some may find unprofessional, but I've found delightful. It would be problematic if it wasn't done so tastefully, added on as a kind of seasoning to the main course of Lacanian soup he's feeding us.Of course, you shouldn't read this independently of Lacan's Transference Seminar, but even you do, it will likely provide the stimulus needed to do so.
