Great story with plenty of sigh-worthy moments! 4 1/2 By Love 2 Read Novels Braeden Scott is a coast guard officer who loves his carefree lifestyle and his sailboat: 'The Trouble with Redheads'. He's recently been assigned a post in a quaint little town on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. It's an assignment he's not looking forward to, until he meets up with Amelia Duer. Amelia has sacrificed a lot for her family; caring for her dad, keeping the family business going, as well as parenting her nephew, Max. She's set aside her dreams for their sake. When Braeden and Amelia first meet sparks fly. She knows what coasties are like and she is not getting involved again. Braeden knows red heads are trouble, as his boat name implies. Marriage is not for him. But as Braeden spends more time with Amelia, he begins to realize there is more to her than meets the eye. He begins to picture hearth and home with this special lady. He also begins to see why she loves this little village and the folks in it so much. As Amelia spends time with Braeden she begins to see how Braeden cares and interacts with her and Max; his kind, gentle and teasing ways make her think that dreams maybe can come true. She begins to realize he's not like the other coasties. But troubled waters lie ahead. Will their faith and relationship be strong enough to see them through?I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I felt like I was by the sea and could hear the waves crashing against the shore. The folks you'll meet quickly find their way into your heart. Braeden was my favorite kind of hero. A self-confident guy with a heart of gold, yet not perfect. Amelia was likable but very frustrating. She had some real issues with self-esteem and fear, but as frustrating as Amelia was, I could totally understand why she was like that and easily relate to some of the things she dealt with. I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction and romantic tension between Amelia and Braeden. There were plenty of sigh-worthy moments. Max is a boy who will definitely win your heart with his antics. The story is a great reminder that we need to have faith instead of fear; trust that God knows best. A new Coast Guard officer arrives in a small town and to help the prickly townsfolk accept him he stays with a family. The family now run charter boats and nature watching tours, since all the fish have been eaten.The red-haired outnumber other persons in this town, and the daughter of the family is as fiery by nature, a rugged outdoorswoman with a hidden artistic talent. She's raising her nephew, whose parents were killed at sea. The little lad is a great character but at only five he's already got serious illness, which seems like a lot of trouble for one family to bear. Around here, Coasties are regarded as fly-by-nights, who'll romance a girl and take off to another posting. The newcomer will have his work cut out to make a strong woman look at him twice. Even if he does look great in uniform.I enjoyed all the talk of crab pots, bait buckets, shore birds and tides. The atmosphere is wonderfully portrayed with occasional action at sea. What sticks out like a sore thumb however is that the heroine jumps into the sea wearing Wellington boots when someone is in difficulties. No way a daughter of a fishing family would do this. She would know that boots fill with water and drag the wearer down. She'd shuck them off in seconds and make her jump, no thought required.Otherwise this is a fine read and anyone interested in the locality or a romance with a difference should pick it up. The tale is suitable for young adult readers as well and they could learn a lot.

If I had to sum it up in one word I'd have to go with...awesome! Carter creates vivid images of a captivating seaside town and the salt-of-the-earth characters who live there. I swear an occasional spray of salt water misted up off the page a time or two. Love becoming so immersed in a setting. Amelia is an intriguing (and frustrating) heroine. I've never met one with such a huge chip on her shoulder -- more like a boulder, actually. It's there for a reason as she's lived through a number of tragedies but sometimes I just wanted slap her upside the head and tell her to give poor Braeden a chance. Mind you he has a few stubborn characteristics too. If you like a good dose of grit mixed in with your romance, liberally peppered with laughter and laced with toe-curling moments, then Coast Guard Courtship is the book for you.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Good Read - Thought Provoking By Ralphy I enjoyed this book. If you have worried about pesticides like me this book will be comforting. I am a born and raised believer in organic growing practices but for those who don't have the means to buy organic, it is great to think the difference may be minimal. I still think organic is best but let's hope Joey Lott is right about conventional products. There is still much work to be done to improve the lives of livestock though.

By Andrew J McMillen If you feel guilty about not eating organic food YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK.The bottom line is if you want to support local farms do it but DON'T buy something in the store labeled "organic" without reading this book. My impression was maybe pesticides etc are a necessary evil and work on being healthy in other ways and just deal with it. Maybe that's not the best thing to say a book review but that was my reaction. I'm going to cut down on certain things, that's for sure, save some money and leave it at that and not worry all the time over everything and pay out the you know what for organic stuff that might be NO DIFFERENT than the regular. Read it :)

A book that all health-conscious people should read By Retro Grade Even though I’ve been interested in nutrition and health for about 10 years now, this book still had lots of valuable information that I’ve never come across before. To summarise: organic food production has sadly succumbed to the profit-above-all mentality and the only safe bet is to buy from small-scale local farmers that one knows well.The only question that was left unanswered for me is this: Isn’t it also important that less pesticide use in organic agriculture leads to less pesticides reaching our water supplies? In other words, I would think that not only what remains on the plant can be potentially problematic, but also what comes into our food supply via other channels. If I remember correctly, in my country values of certain pesticides in water supply were measured high, often even above the officially allowed limit. Seen from this angle, organic agriculture, while far from perfect, might still be of some benefit to the ecosystems.

I had read this author's first book, The Journal, and really enjoyed it so while I was out of town, my husband went to a book signing to buy the sequel because he knew I would want it. He was correct! On a recent rainy day, I sat down and began reading The Leather Satchel & didn't stop until I had finished it! I read that the author, Helen K. Jordan, is 88 years young. She stated that it took her between 3 & 4 years to write her first book, but only 4 months to write the second. I hope she will continue to write because I will continue to buy and read her books. Excellent read!

Catching up with the characters we grew to know and care about from the first adventure, we follow them back to Berlin in another search for a Dickensian heiress' claim. Intrigue follows; the mystery deepens before the story is resolved. Ms Jordan can tell a story and hold your interest until the last page. If you are headed beachside or poolside, take this lovely story with you!

About the Author

Michael Norten received a ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1974. He has served on the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ and as a Bible instructor, representing ministries for over forty years. He was an associate pastor of Lewisville Bible Church in Lewisville, Texas, and served as interim pastor and pulpit supply for a number of churches in North Texas. He has been an independent representative and regional vice president of a financial services company for thirty years. He resides in Dallas, Texas, with his wife Ann.

Barker This is an excellent book.I am now 71 years old and have been teaching about Jesus and His fulfillment of the Feast formore than 20 years now. I did not have the resources that the writer did, as I am not acquaintedwith any Jewish Rabbi's, other than Jonathan Cahn who wrote "The Harbinger", also an excellent book.There are lots of books written on the Feasts of Israel, but this is the best one I have found.Lots of the Feast Books are "Replacement Theology" oriented which I totally disagree with. The Christian Church has NOT replaced Israel although most Israelites have no idea who they are. They seem to believe that the People of Israel no longer exist. There are 12 tribes and today we can only identify two of them. Judah is one and Levi the priestly tribe along with a portion of thetribe of Benjamin.This book is spot on about when Jesus was crucified and how Jesus fulfilled the first three feast(literally "set times".) Then the appearance of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost fulfilled the 4th Feast.It only stands to reason that the second coming of the Lord will fulfill the final 3 feast which are "Harvest Feast". Probably Jesus will return on the Feast of Trumpets. It also would appear that Jesus was born on the Feast of Trumpets as there are two trumpets. One for His first coming and the second trumpet for His second coming to earth. It is obvious that Jesus was not born inDecember when the weather is cold in Israel. We are told the shepherds were in the fields tending their flocks and they do not do this in the cold winter months.I certainly recommend this book. It is well written and very informative.One thing the author did not cover and I was a bit disappointed is the fact that Jesus was notcrucified on Friday. There is no way to get three days and three nights from Friday afternoon toSunday morning. This error made by the church of Rome misinterprets the Sabbath that referencedin the gospels. Saturday is not the only sabbath. When the Feast of Unleavend Bread begins theevening of the Passover is called a "High Sabbath", and there are others as well. For those notunderstanding this very crucial bit of information will have difficulty in their faith as I did because you simply can't get 3 days and 3 nights from Friday afternoon to Sunday Morning.However you understand the feast you realize that the order of succession of the feast would require Jesus to be crucified that exact year that He was crucified. Any other year and the Feast would not have worked out as they did.Overall an excellent book.

It is hard to find a book that explains what the festivals meant rather than just telling what took place. They did a good job and I think you will like the book if you are tired of trying to find out what they were really about.

By SB-9 So much information packed into 97 pages...Each of the Jewish feasts are clearly explained. A parallel is drawn between them and how Jesus has fulfilled 4 of them. Three of the feasts are still to be fulfilled in the future by the Jewish Messiah, Y'shua (Jesus). Every Messianic Jew and Born Again believer should read this little gem of a book.

About the Author Iain M. Duguid (PhD, University of Cambridge) is professor of Old Testament at Grove City College and pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church in Grove City, Pennsylvania. He has also served as a missionary in Liberia, taught at Reformed Seminary and Westminster Seminary California, and planted churches in Fallbrook, California, and Oxford, England. Some of Duguid’s other work includes books such as Living in the Gap Between Promise and Reality and Hero of Heroes, as well as commentaries on Ezekiel, Daniel, Ruth, Esther and more. He was a translator for the Holman Christian Standard Version of the Bible and is a contributor to the New Living Translation Study Bible, the HCSV Study Bible and the ESV Study Bible. He and his wife Barb have five children.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. A Real Gem By Jimmy R. Reagan Here is a jewel of a commentary by a writer always worth reading–Iain Duguid. He writes in venerable Tyndale Old Testament Commentary series (TOTC) on a book of the Bible, Song of Solomon, where many commentaries are disappointing. This volume, for me, was a breath of fresh air.It is a specimen of succinctness while still speaking on all the important issues that larger volumes tackle. (You can do as I did and take a glance at Duane Garrett’s WBC for meticulous detail on interesting subjects raised here). While the old Tyndale volume on the Song by Carr was a good commentary, I found this one more helpful.For one thing he respects the allegorical approach (or as he explains, a typological approach). He gently discusses where there might be problems, but he also does on the natural approach. He finally comes to a natural interpretation, minus sexual excess, with a dash of typology. I personally would have more a typological approach with a dash of natural interpretation, but I was enriched by this outstanding volume.For another, he is talented as a commentary writer wrestling with the text. He has other commentaries out there worth getting too. I found a few places in the text where I disagreed with his conclusions, but again, he writes well and fair. Pastors and Bible students will be glad to get this wonderful, economical commentary. Five stars all the way.I received this book free from the publisher.
