He explains all of the major types of anxiety (including social anxiety, generalized anxiety, phobias, OCD, perfectionism, school refusal, selective mutism, and more) and gives us the words and methods to use to show kids and teens that we know how to support them and to guide them in facing their fears. He includes relaxation strategies, exposure therapy, and several components of cognitive behavioral therapies. He packs in a great deal of information about working with those on the autism spectrum as well, from strategies for those who are non-verbal to individuals with high-functioning Asperger's.

Dr. Baker's book has been a valuable tool in my work with anxious children and teens. The materials are easy to use and understand. The scientific reasoning approach has worked well with many of my spectrum clients who have natural tendencies for concrete thinking. I found the chapters with case examples very useful in working with clients who present with various forms of anxiety. I will keep it on my desk rather than the book shelf!Janice M. Bryk LCSW

A rewarding experience By Katherine Davis Extremely useful tool for gaining a better understanding of anxiety-related behaviors and how to use that understanding to apply the practical strategies developed by Dr. Baker. I highly recommend this book for parents and teachers alike as the increasing academic and social expectations of children/teens can impair their ability to appropriately manage stress. Overcoming Anxiety In Children and Teens offers compassionate insights and effective management strategies for children/teens who have varying levels of anxiety. Success is apparent in positive changes in behavior, confidence, and independence...a very rewarding experience.
